Analyst Predicts Giants Make Shocking Trade in 2025 NFL Draft To Land QB of the Future

According to one NFL analyst, the New York Giants could pick Miami's Cam Ward in the 2025 NFL Draft to become a playoff team.

The New York Giants have had a catastrophic season, leaving themselves without a quarterback and needing to fill several holes across the roster.

The Giants benched and cut starter Daniel Jones in November, and their offensive line was a bottom-six unit. Both positions could see heavy investment from general manager Joe Schoen this offseason. One NFL analyst predicts they will go after a potential quarterback of the future in Miami Hurricanes gunslinger Cam Ward.

NFL Analyst Predicts New York Giants Make Surprise Move for Cam Ward in 2025 NFL Draft

Apart from Drew Lock delivering one of the most unlikely spectacular performances in recent NFL history in Week 17, the Giants were largely a failure in 2024

They finished 29th in success rate both through the air and on the ground, and Jones finished as the league’s 32nd-best quarterback by PFSN’s QB+ metric. Saquon Barkley’s departure left a mark — one that Schoen may not recover from. New York also had an impotent red-zone offense, ranking last in touchdown rate (43%) by a wide margin.

The Giants have many problems to address ahead of the coming season, and the quarterback room will undergo an overhaul. Brian Daboll stands on some of the thinnest ice of any coach entering next season, and USA Today’s Cory Woodroof predicts he will swap his No. 3 pick with the Cleveland Browns to go after Ward.

“The Browns have Cousins, so they’ll make a quick swap with the New York Giants, who are right by them with the third-overall pick. New York gets in place to land its quarterback of the future.

“Coach Brian Daboll and general manager Joe Schoen breathe a huge sigh of relief as they’re able to draft Ward. Now, it’s up to them to develop him into the Giants’ long-term quarterback.”

It is worth noting that the PFSN’s latest mock draft also projects the Giants picking Ward, but we have him falling to No.3.

“Head coach Brian Daboll and general manager Joe Schoen enter next season firmly on the hot seat and must perform well to keep their jobs,” Brentley Weissman wrote. “The team desperately needs a new quarterback and Cam Ward has the playmaking ability to excel in Daboll’s offense.

“Ward is a big-armed quarterback with outstanding ability to find the open man at all three levels of the field. He has the highest upside of all the passers in this year’s class. Ward showing promise as a rookie passer may just do the trick in saving this regime’s jobs.”

Ward can also make quick throws and has the arm flexibility to throw at multiple angles.

He had a phenomenal campaign for the Hurricanes this year, showing off his dual-threat abilities as well in the process. He had 4,313 passing yards, 39 passing touchdowns, and only seven interceptions.

Furthermore, he had 204 yards and four touchdowns on the ground.

He’s cemented himself as one of the top quarterbacks in the class and gives the Giants a perfect opportunity to build for the future. Ensuring they can actually make that pick could require a trade to No. 2.
