Should You Draft St. Brown This Year?
Few receivers are projected to have a higher fantasy floor than St. Brown entering the 2024 NFL season.
Why do I feel comfortable making that statement? Well, simply, St. Brown has gotten better and better every year of his NFL career — with 2023 being no exception. St. Brown’s 119 receptions for 1,515 yards and 10 TDs (all career highs) last year helped him finish as the WR3 overall in PPR formats.
This marks the third straight year to start his career where St. Brown’s targets, receptions, yards, and TDs have all increased — putting him in the company of the elite fantasy WRs.
St. Brown’s usage in the passing game by almost every metric suggests he actually has a case for the WR1 overall approaching the 2024 season. He ranked inside the top five at the position in targets (164), receptions (119), and yards (1,515) in 2023. His leading role in one of the league’s elite offense units makes him about as safe of a pick as you can make in your fantasy draft.

St. Brown had just three occasions where he finished with fewer than six receptions or 70 yards all season.
St. Brown does his best work out of the slot — where he lined up 55% of the time last year — but he is far from just a one-trick pony. He also has been heavily used as a weapon in the red zone. This pairs perfectly with his exceptional yards-after-the-catch ability, finishing second in the league (668 yards).
St. Brown’s red-zone usage and production both fall into the elite category. When in the red zone, St. Brown’s targets (23), receptions (16), and yards (107) all ranked inside the top 10 in the league. This suggests he is a preferred option for Goff when the team can’t punch it in on the ground.
St. Brown’s ADP at No. 8 overall, going off the board in the first round as the WR5, doesn’t exactly provide fantasy managers with a discount on draft day, but it does make it feasible to land the elite receiver at the tail end of the first round.

Can we confidently say players like Justin Jefferson, Ja’Marr Chase, or A.J. Brown are in an exponentially better fantasy situation than St. Brown? I can’t confidently say that.
Sure, St. Brown may not possess the elite top-tier athletic profile of the other first-round talents, but his physical toughness, route-running savvy, and contested-catch ability in traffic make him the ideal big slot operator for this high-powered Detroit offense.
Draft him with confidence as your WR1 in 2024.
