Amarius Mims is one of several offensive tackles who seems poised to hear his name called early in the 2024 NFL Draft. Let’s take a look at everything to know about the highly touted prospect from Georgia.
How Tall Is Amarius Mims?
Mims measured in at a whopping 6-foot-8 at the NFL Combine alongside 36 1/8-inch arms, two marks that rank favorably among his fellow offensive tackles. Mims’ arm length ranks in the 96th percentile among OTs, while his height ranks in the 95th percentile.
How Much Does Mims Weigh?
Another piece of Mims’ impressive physical tools is his weight after weighing in at 340 pounds during the Combine. His weight also ranks in the 95th percentile among offensive tackles, just another figure that points to Mims having the figure to be a difference-maker at the NFL level.
How Old Is Mims?
Mims is 21 years old, having been born on Oct. 4, 2002, and spent the minimum requirement of three years in college prior to declaring for the 2024 NFL Draft.
He was born in Cochran, Georgia, and played high school football at Bleckley County High School, where he was rated a five-star recruit.
What School Did Mims Go To?
Mims stayed close to home for his college football career by attending the University of Georgia for all three years of his collegiate career. He was rated as the No. 1 prospect in the state by 247 Sports prior to heading to Georgia.
Revisiting Mims’ College Career
Mims had some impressive moments during his college career despite some injury issues this past season. He played seven games in 2023, including six starts, but was injured in the conference opener against South Carolina before returning for the home finale against Ole Miss and sitting out the Bulldogs’ bowl game due to injury.
Perhaps Mims’ best collegiate season came in 2022, when he appeared as a reserve OT in 14 of 15 games and started both of Georgia’s College Football Playoff games as it went on to win the national championship.
Mims also made eight appearances as a reserve offensive lineman in 2021, his true freshman season.
Mims’ Potential In the NFL
Mims is one of the more intriguing prospects from a sheer physical standpoint, given his elite measurables for an offensive tackle in height, weight, and arm size.
There are concerns about his relative lack of experience at the college level and injury issues this past season that seem to have kept him behind some more highly regarded prospects in a deep offensive tackle class.
Pro Football Network draft analyst Ian Cummings still has Mims as the No. 22 overall prospect on his big board, however — just ahead of fellow offensive linemen Tyler Guyton and Troy Fautanu but behind four other OT prospects.
Cummings still had some positive thoughts on Mims in his scouting report on the inexperienced yet physically gifted offensive tackle:
“Mims’ path to the 2024 NFL Draft has been similar to Broderick Jones’, who came before Mims in the 2023 NFL Draft cycle. Jones was a five-star recruit who played sparingly until his final season but then put together a campaign that vaulted him into the first round.
“Mims, like Jones, boasted five-star billing in the 2021 class and was a reserve lineman in 2021. He started just two games in 2022 but showed promise in the College Football Playoff.
“2023 was supposed to be Mims’ chance to complete the cycle and slingshot himself effusively into Round 1 territory. But an ankle injury that required tightrope surgery took him off the field for a stretch, and Georgia, falling short of the CFB Playoff, missed an opportunity to extend the season.
“Mims only has eight career starts now, and he wasn’t even completely healthy for half of them. And yet, even with these asterisks, his profile still demands attention as a potential Round 1 inclusion. That’s a testament to just how talented Mims is.”
