Is Alexander Mattison Playing in Week 12?

Las Vegas Raiders RB Alexander Mattison did not practice this week due to an ankle injury and is doubtful for Sunday’s game. Before exiting Sunday’s loss to the Dolphins in the fourth quarter, Mattison posted five carries for 19 yards and three catches for 50 yards.

Raiders RB Zamir White also left Sunday’s game with a quad injury. He never practiced this week and is also considered doubtful for Week 12.

Las Vegas will be dealing with a shorthanded RB room heading into its Week 12 matchup against the Broncos.

On Friday, head coach Antonio Pierce said veteran Ameer Abdullah will be the Raiders’ starter vs. Denver if Mattison and White can’t play. Fifth-round rookie Dylan Laube will likely also be involved, while Vegas could promote an RB from its practice squad for depth.

We’ll continue to monitor the Raiders’ injury report. You can also visit and bookmark our NFL Injury Tracker and Fantasy News Tracker for the latest updates.

Should You Start or Sit Alexander Mattison in Week 12?

Alexander Mattison left Week 11’s loss to the Dolphins with an ankle injury, something that could end up saving you from yourself.

Since 2021, 52 running backs have at least 300 carries, and Mattison ranks 49th in boom/bust rate (the percentage difference in carries gaining at least 10 yards and that failed to gain yardage).

I’d argue that chasing the lead role in Vegas is a fool’s errand to begin with, and considering that we’ve already seen Mattison struggle in this spot (15 carries for 38 yards against Denver in Week 5), I’m not backing off of that now.

The Broncos allow the fourth-fewest yards per carry and touchdowns at the fifth-lowest rate to opposing backs. There is no clear path to Mattison mattering at full strength, let alone a compromised version of himself.
