Alec Pierce Fantasy Waiver Wire: Should I Pick Up the Colts WR This Week?

    Published on

Should fantasy football managers consider adding Colts WR Alec Pierce off of the waiver following his first career 100-yard day for Indianapolis?

The Indianapolis Colts picked up an exciting win on Sunday, as they knocked off their division rival, the Tennessee Titans, 31-28 in overtime. Quarterback Gardner Minshew II led the way for the Colts, finishing the game with 312 yards and two touchdowns.

Michael Pittman Jr. was Indianapolis’ leading receiver with 11 catches for 105 yards and one touchdown, but he wasn’t the only Colts receiver with 100 yards. Alec Pierce had three catches for 100 yards and another touchdown.

Is this a one-time performance for Pierce, or should fantasy football managers sign him off the waiver wire?

Should Alec Pierce Be a Fantasy Waiver Wire Add in Week 14?

When quarterback Anthony Richardson went down, many people wondered if the Colts would remain in playoff contention.

Minshew has answered that question seemingly every week, as Indianapolis is currently 7-5 and right there in the AFC South race. The Colts have been one of the best teams this year on the road, where they are currently 5-1. This is a team that has shown it can compete with virtually any team in the NFL — even if it means winning ugly.

Indianapolis should be playing in a lot of big games, which means the Colts’ main players are going to continue to get their opportunities to make plays. Thus, Pierce could continue to be a guy who has some league-winning weeks.

However, while I am not 100% sure what his ceiling truly is, I am going to stay away from Pierce.

He has six games in his career with at least 60 yards. The performance on Sunday was the best of his career.

His performance — 19 PPR points — is something that most fantasy football managers would take in their lineup. The best-case scenario results in him being the fourth option on the Colts. Whether it’s Jonathan Taylor or Zack Moss, either running back is going to be an essential part of the offense.

Pittman is the Colts’ unquestioned No. 1 target in the passing game, and then it goes to young wide receiver Josh Downs. The rookie from North Carolina has 48 catches for 566 yards and two touchdowns. He and Pittman have both at least doubled Pierce in catches and have shown to be the guys that Minshew will look for.

If there is any chance that Downs is still on your waiver wire, by all means, go get the rookie. He is an underrated target who is capable of going for 100 yards in any given game.

There are worse options than Pierce on the waiver wire, but his ceiling just isn’t high enough. He has had a solid two-game stretch, but we need to see more from Pierce before considering having him on your team. As I said, there isn’t much room to rise above the No. 3 receiver for Indianapolis.

Right now, try and find another receiver who could potentially be a No. 2 on their respective team and is more involved in the offense.
