    The Eagles stopped the three-peat.

The Kansas City Chiefs will not elongate their dynasty, and the 40-22 win provides Philly the franchise’s second Lombardi Trophy.

Kansas City came into the game with one of the best offenses in the NFL and two straight Super Bowl championships. They had 34 yards of offense in the first half, and the 24-0 halftime deficit felt more like 100-point deficit.

The Eagles sacked quarterback Patrick Mahomes at will, and Cooper DeJean returned one of Mahomes’ picks 38 yards for a touchdown (and did so on his 22nd birthday).

The Eagles’ defense, led by coordinator Vic Fangio, kept changing things up and did not let Mahomes get comfortable in the pocket.

Mahomes would toss another pick on the first play of a drive deep in their territory in the second quarter which would lead to another Eagles touchdown. Two plays after the interception, Super Bowl MVP Jalen Hurts found Brown for the biggest nail in the Chiefs’ coffin. The score became 24-0, which at the time felt insurmountable.

The ultimate backbreaker would occur when Smith was on the receiving end of a 46-yard touchdown pass from Hurts that made the score 34-0. There was no turning back for the Eagles.

Despite giving up a pair of touchdowns to Xavier Worthy, the Eagles always had the game in hand. There would be no denying the Eagles their retribution for losing to the Chiefs two years ago in Super Bowl 57, 38-35.

There was history made in the Superdome, but it was not made by Kansas City. It was made by Philadelphia, who made sure Pat Riley would not get three-peat royalties.

The Eagles are flying high as Super Bowl champions.
