Aidan Hutchinson has quickly made a name for himself as an impact player since entering the NFL two years ago with the Detroit Lions, helping the franchise earn its first playoff win since 1991 in the process. Hutchinson’s father, Chris, and younger sister, Aria, have paved the way for him to earn national recognition of their own.
A Look at Aidan Hutchinson’s Family
Aidan, who was taken No. 2 overall in the 2022 NFL Draft, had plenty of successful family members whose footsteps he could follow.
Chris was a standout college football player during his playing days at the University of Michigan, where he started at least seven games in all four of his seasons. He helped the Wolverines win nine or more games each year.
Chris broke Michigan’s single-season records at the time for sacks (11) and sack yardage (99) his senior year in 1992 and finished his career with 24 sacks, then the second-most in Wolverines program history.
Following that standout season, Chris was selected as a first-team All-American by several publications, including the Football Writers Association of America and the American Football Coaches Association.
Chris is not the only successful member of the Hutchinson family, however.
His daughter and Aidan’s younger sister, Aria, was named Miss Michigan USA in 2022 and graduated from the state’s flagship university in 2021 with a degree in neuroscience.
Aidan’s mother, Melissa, made a name for herself as well when she was named Miss Michigan Teen USA in 1988. She has since worked as a photographer, among other enterprises.
Aidan has since made an impression of his own as both a college football player and in the NFL. He tallied 62 tackles (36 solo), 16.5 tackles for loss, 14 sacks, three pass breakups, two forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery as a senior at Michigan in 2021, aptly timing the best season of his college career before heading to the draft.
Aidan was then selected second overall by the Lions and has taken off ever since. Hutchinson finished second in the Associated Press Defensive Rookie of the Year voting in 2022 after posting 52 tackles (34 solo), nine tackles for loss, 9.5 sacks, three pass breakups, three interceptions, and two fumble recoveries.
Hutchinson made an even larger impact in 2023 on his way to a Pro Bowl nod. He racked up 51 tackles (36 solo), 14 tackles for loss, 11 sacks, seven pass breakups, three forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, and one interception in 17 regular-season games (all starts).
