Miami Dolphins veteran cornerback Xavien Howard broke the bank. Howard has agreed to a new five-year contract with an additional $50.691 million in new money. The new-money average across the additional two years is $25.35 million, according to his agent David Canter.
Xavien Howard gets the highest average per year for a corner
The new contract means Howard has the highest new-money average by over $5 million in NFL history. His average per year for a cornerback is the highest in NFL history. He is now the first cornerback in NFL history to have five years of his contracts fully guaranteed. Howard is also the first NFL player to have his contract completely restructured with both four and three years remaining.
A former second-round 2016 NFL Draft pick out of Baylor, Howard had been pursuing a new contract for a while. He played in 16 games last season, recording 50 tackles, 5 interceptions, 2 forced fumbles, 2 fumble recoveries, 2 defensive touchdowns, and 1 sack.
