While much of the 2025 NFL Draft focus has been on Cam Ward, Shedeur Sanders, and Jaxson Dart as first-round quarterbacks, one name that hasn’t been talked about as much is Louisville quarterback Tyler Shough.
However, one NFL insider revealed that Shough is one of the fastest-rising prospects leading up to the 2025 NFL Draft.
Tyler Shough’s Draft Stock Rising Fast Ahead of the 2025 NFL Draft
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Shough has 10 pre-draft visits and four private workouts scheduled with general managers and head coaches. Schefter noted that the quarterback’s stock is soaring, especially after his 4.63-second 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine turned heads.
“Louisville QB Tyler Shough — one of the fastest-rising prospects in the draft — has 10 pre-draft visits and four private workouts lined up with key decision-makers, including GMs, head coaches, and offensive coordinators, sources said.
At 6’5”, 220 lbs, Shough has displayed a strong, accurate arm and surprising mobility (4.63 40-yard dash at the Combine). With the draft just over a month away, his buzz keeps building.”

Among the teams showing interest in Shough, the Seattle Seahawks reportedly have a top-30 visit scheduled with him — despite recently signing Sam Darnold to a three-year, $100.5 million deal.
At 6’5″ and 225 pounds, Shough has a strong arm capable of making throws at all levels with precision. He operates efficiently in rhythm, extends plays with his legs, and delivers pinpoint passes on the run. He also has experience running an offense, handling pre-snap adjustments, and working through progressions — skills that will translate well at the next level.
Shough is a mature prospect, having played seven seasons of high-level college football across three major programs: Oregon, Texas Tech, and Louisville.
Over his career, he’s started 33 games and appeared in 42, throwing for 59 touchdowns while adding 11 rushing scores. His most productive season came in 2024, his first year with the Cardinals, where he started all 12 meaningful games, finishing with 3,195 passing yards, 23 touchdowns, and just six interceptions.
Tyler Shough Draft Projection
PFSN’s Reese Decker rated Shough as one of the few quarterbacks in this draft class who could immediately step into an NFL offense and make an impact. However, Decker pointed out that Shough is nearly two years older than most of his QB class, and combined with his injury history, he currently projects as a Day 2 prospect.
“Shough is arguably the most intriguing prospect in this draft class. If he were 22 years old with a clean bill of health, he would likely be in the conversation alongside Cam Ward and Shedeur Sanders at the top of the draft — potentially even making a case as QB1.
“However, due to his age and extensive injury history, he currently projects as a Day 2 prospect who could slide into the fourth or fifth round.
“Teams will likely struggle to justify investing significant draft capital in Shough at 25 years old, as they won’t have the same runway to develop him compared to younger quarterbacks in this class.
“Players like Jaxson Dart (21), Quinn Ewers (21), Ward (22), Jalen Milroe (22), Will Howard (23), and Sanders (23) are all at least two years younger, making them more attractive long-term investments.
“By the time Shough’s rookie contract expires, he’ll be 29 or 30 years old, a factor that will weigh heavily on how teams assess his draft value. However, Shough may not need a lot of time to develop. He feels like a prospect who could step in and immediately conduct an offense. Simply put, he’s an NFL quarterback.”
Meanwhile, in PFSN’s latest seven-round mock draft by Jacob Infante, Shough is projected to go in the third round to the New Orleans Saints, who currently have Derek Carr under center.
“Spencer Rattler showcased some ups and downs in his rookie year, so if the Saints have the chance to bring in a low-stakes pick like Tyler Shough, whose arm strength and accuracy have seen him rise up boards, it would make sense,” Infante wrote.
