The NFL quarterback market is currently at an impasse as Aaron Rodgers mulls over his options. While teams such as the Pittsburgh Steelers and New York Giants have been linked to signing Rodgers as their starting quarterback, there is another team that Rodgers could set his sights on.

Could Rodgers be Waiting on the Vikings?
“The Vikings are having discussions about what they want to do at quarterback and if they want Rodgers,” said Dianna Russini, a senior insider for ‘The Athletic.’ “Rodgers is giving them time and waiting to hear from Minnesota. ”

After selecting J.J. McCarthy as the 10th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, he was expected to be the franchise quarterback for the Vikings. However, he suffered a torn meniscus before the start of his rookie season, causing him to miss the entire season. As a result, Sam Darnold got the opportunity to start, and he took advantage of it.
At 27 years old, Darnold made his first career Pro Bowl after completing 66.2% of his passes for 4,319 yards, 35 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions. Darnold also added 212 yards and a touchdown as a rusher, leading the Vikings to a 14-3 record. The career year netted Darnold a three-year, $100.5 million contract with the Seattle Seahawks, leaving McCarthy as the unrivaled starter.
However, with McCarthy coming off a season-ending injury and still not having played a regular-season snap in the NFL, the Vikings could have an interest in having a backup plan. The team was linked to bringing back Daniel Jones, however, he signed a one-year contract with the Indianapolis Colts to compete with Anthony Richardson for the starting job.
What are Rodgers’ Options?
As for Rodgers, the options to start next season are limited. The Giants and Steelers both need a quarterback and have been heavily linked to him. However, Rodgers will turn 42 in December and could be looking at his last chance to make a run at a Super Bowl. If the Vikings express interest in bringing him in, Rodgers could deem that his best opportunity to win another Super Bowl.
In his first season fully removed from a torn Achilles, Rodgers completed 63.0% of his passes for 3,897 yards, 28 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions. The counting numbers did not equate to wins for Rodgers and the Jets, though, as they finished at 5-12 and missed the postseason.
Rodgers finished 2024 with the No. 21 ranking and 72.2 rating (C-) in PFSN’s QB+ metric. However, a change of scenery could pay dividends for Rodgers, as could improved weapons on offense.
Minnesota would provide Rodgers with Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison on the outside, while Pittsburgh has a shiny new duo of DK Metcalf and George Pickens at wide receiver. As for the Giants, while not as established, a duo of Darius Slayton and budding superstar Malik Nabers could benefit from the addition of the four-time NFL MVP.
It remains to be seen whether the Vikings are truly interested in bringing Rodgers in for a year. If they are, he will follow the career path of the quarterback he succeeded in Green Bay, Brett Favre.
Rodgers’ future will presumably be one of the biggest storylines around the NFL until he decides what he will do, and his decision will impact what several teams do at the quarterback position.
