Aaron Rodgers Seems Displeased With Nathaniel Hackett’s Play Call During Jets Loss

It's been tough sledding on offense this year for the New York Jets. On Sunday night, it looked like Aaron Rodgers may not have agreed with a third-down call.

The New York Jets dropped to 4-5 last night as they suffered their second straight loss in disappointing fashion. The Jets are in the midst of treading water as they await the hopeful return of Aaron Rodgers. However, in the meantime, it has been rough sailing for the Jets’ offense as they try and complement a defensive unit that is one of the best in the NFL.

Throughout a game, there are calls that work and some that don’t. And while there are different philosophies, not everybody is going to agree with every decision made at the moment. Such was the case on Sunday night on one particular third-down play that had Rodgers shaking his head.

Aaron Rodgers May Not Have Liked This Play Selection

The Jets were facing a 3rd-and-1 at their own 38-yard line with just over eight minutes left in the first half and the clock running. Offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett is seen on the NBC broadcast relaying the play call to Zach Wilson ahead of the big play.

Meanwhile, the cameras also captured Rodgers’ reaction to the play as he listened in on a headset. He did not seem to approve of the plan of attack.

The play in question was a shotgun formation handoff to Breece Hall that got snuffed out for no gain and forced New York to punt. What specifically Rodgers was upset about is not known. However, one could imagine that the outcome that took place may have been something he thought was a real possibility pre-snap.

Ultimately the Jets went on to lose 16-12 in another close, low-scoring game that presented many opportunities for New York’s offense to find a way to win before falling short once again.

    Rodgers’ Reported Timeline

While the offense continues to struggle, many within the franchise are still holding onto hope that Rodgers may come back sooner rather than later to help the Jets with a playoff push.

On Sunday night, NBC’s Melissa Stark said the 39-year-old plans to return to the field in mid-December.

“I know it sounds insane,” Rodgers said.

That timeline would have Rodgers back on the field in just over four months after completely tearing his Achilles tendon. This timeline to this point in human history has never been done before. But Rodgers and his medical team are adamant that it is possible for him to make this return at an alarmingly quick rate.

Only time will tell if it is possible, but no one is ruling out this medical anomaly from happening.
