Can Aaron Brewer Make the Miami Dolphins a Downhill Running Team?

    Published on

The Miami Dolphins have high hopes for the impact that athletic interior offensive lineman Aaron Brewer can have on their run game.

New Miami Dolphins interior lineman Aaron Brewer admits it: He’s not the biggest dude.

But the 6’1″, 295-pounder might be the most “relentless” dude. And in football, motor can beat size — particularly when it comes to getting to the second level.

That’s why the Dolphins feel comfortable going from Connor Williams to Brewer at center in 2024 — if that’s how this thing ultimately shakes out.

Aaron Brewer’s Role on Miami Dolphins

We can pretty confidently say one thing: The Dolphins are planning on Brewer starting somewhere on their offensive line.

They didn’t just give the ex-Tennessee Titans guard/center a three-year, $21 million contract to ride the pine.

Brewer told Miami-based reporters Friday he always felt like center was his “destined position” due to his size.

“I’m not one of the big, 320-, 310-, 300-pound offensive lineman. And so you don’t really see too many of the undersized offensive linemen being that guard. So I just feel like me being undersized was just basically predetermined for me to be a center.”

Asked to list his strengths, Brewer — who started each game for Tennessee the previous two years — replied:

“My speed, my aggressiveness. My will, like my work ethic and leverage. … I’m not gonna stop. So I’m gonna keep going. I got that chip on my shoulder, and so I feel like that’s my edge above people I’m playing against.”

He needed that mindset to play for Mike Vrabel and block for Derrick Henry in Tennessee.

Brewer will be a great signing if he can bring that smash-mouth philosophy to a Dolphins offense that has wilted under the bright lights of late- and postseason football the last two years.

“You gotta be aggressive,” he said. “You gotta be in shape, and you just gotta be — what’s the word? — relentless. You gotta be a dog. Like you got to have speed and they like, you know, Derrick Henry, he’s a big back, he’s fast for his size.

“So, like, if your back is fast, you gotta be fast as well what you’re doing. So I say just being in shape and having that effort and finish mentality about you and not giving up and being able to go four quarters.”
