Betting odds for the next New York Jets head coach in 2021 aren’t readily available across all sportsbooks. That said, we do have some premature odds popping up in different places. The Jets have already begun their head coaching search, while Tony Pauline has been reporting on who the Jets could be targeting as well. Let’s see if there’s any value to be had in this unique betting market.
Odds to be the next Jets head coach in 2021
According to the table in this article, here are the odds (as of the fourth of January) to be the Jets’ next head coach. Brian Daboll is a small favorite over Eric Bieniemy, although the odds are tight up and down the list. A few gag options exist at the bottom with Rex Ryan and Doug Pederson as well.
What head coaching candidates are the Jets considering?
Here is a list of candidates whom the Jets have requested to interview as of this writing. You can also keep track of all head coaching vacancies with our 2021 head coach news and rumors tracker.
- Chiefs Offensive Coordinator Eric Bieniemy
- Bills Offensive Coordinator Brian Daboll
- Colts Defensive Coordinator Matt Eberflus
- Titans Offensive Coordinator Arthur Smith
- Rams Defensive Coordinator Brandon Staley
You can add New York Giants defensive coordinator Patrick Graham, but he agreed to an extension with his current team. Arthur Smith has the longest odds of being the Jets head coach in 2021. Bieniemy, of course, has the shortest.

The only candidate they can interview this week is Bieniemy, as Kansas City is on a bye. However, Pauline and Benjamin Allbright have reported that Bieniemy is likely to land in Houston, if not Atlanta.
The rest will have to wait until next week, assuming their teams don’t advance to the second round of the playoffs.
Which of these candidates represent value in the betting market?
Matt Campbell is another name that will be linked to the Jets job, but Pauline reports those in the league don’t think he would be a good fit in the NFL due to being too “buddy-buddy” with his players.
I don’t like betting short favorites in futures markets, and Bieniemy is no exception. He has not interviewed well in the past, and a potential long playoff run could scare the Jets off if they want to hire sooner rather than later. According to our NFL insiders, as I mentioned above, he is likely to end up in Houston or Atlanta.
However, there is one name I’m intrigued by; unfortunately, he currently doesn’t have odds to become the Jets head coach in 2021.
Should Don “Wink” Martindale be the favorite for the Jets head coaching job?
While he isn’t listed on the odds table above, Pro Football Network’s Tony Pauline has highlighted Martindale as the favorite to land the Jets head coaching job. He worked with GM Joe Douglas for two years in Baltimore, and the two have reportedly become good friends.
Pauline’s league sources believe hiring Martindale would be a step in the right direction for the beleaguered franchise. The players love him, and his strict defensive-minded approach could be what’s needed after they failed with their offensive-minded hire in Adam Gase. Above all else, his units have been superb in Baltimore.
I’m not sure what Martindale’s opinion of Sam Darnold is, but that shouldn’t be a concern with any candidate as the Jets also own the second overall pick. A new coach will have the luxury of choosing between Darnold and one of the top rookie QBs not named Trevor Lawrence.
At what odds can we bet Martindale?
I’m not sure what price Martindale will open at once more sportsbooks offer this prop. Odds of eight to one (+800) or longer would be ideal, with six to one (+600) being fine but not exciting. Anything less than 6/1 probably doesn’t have value, but I value the information shared by Pauline immensely. That said, I’ll probably still bet on Martindale’s odds of being the 2021 Jets head coach even if he opens as a short favorite.
Are Matt Eberflus and Robert Saleh worth a bet?
If the Jets are indeed looking for the defensive type, Eberflus and Saleh make sense if you aren’t sold on Martindale.
Eberflus knows assistant GM Rex Hogan from their time in Indianapolis, giving him a tie to the organization. He also led an exceptional unit with the Colts defense.

Saleh makes sense, but the Jets haven’t requested to interview him. I find that strange, considering he is one of the top candidates on the market, a terrific defensive mind, and the Jets should explore all options.
On top of all of that, he will most likely take either Mike McDaniel or Mike LaFleur with him to his new job. The Shanahan offense experienced copious amounts of success this season. Bringing in a coordinator with experience in the system sets Saleh over the top.
They haven’t set up an interview with Saleh, which might be why he is 13/1 to land the job.
Summary of bets
- I like Martindale the best, ideally at anything longer than 6/1.
- Eberflus makes sense as a backup option at 9/1.
- Saleh is arguably the most qualified candidate, but the Jets haven’t requested an interview yet, so the 13/1 price is appropriate.
