Thursday Night Football Tonight | What to expect from Patriots vs. Rams?
The New England Patriots looked exactly how many expected them to when the season started. Without Tom Brady and lacking offensive weapons, they struggled to get anything going. They were 2-5 earlier in the season, and since then, they’ve found their identity. Specifically, they started to run the ball more, their defense got better, and they started playing tougher. They’ve won four of their last five, and now they sit at 6-6 and entrenched in the AFC’s playoff race.
The Patriots’ offense goes as their running game goes. They’re third in the NFL in rushing yards per game, and they get production from everywhere. Cam Newton, James White, Rex Burkhead, and Damien Harris have all played major roles at different parts of the season. Just don’t ask Newton to win games with his arm. The Patriots are the third-worst passing offense in the NFL.
Can the Rams defense stop the Patriots’ impressive run game?
The bad news for the Patriots is that their opponent for tonight’s Thursday Night Football game has the third-best rush defense in the NFL. If Aaron Donald and company can keep the Patriots running game in check, it’s hard to see how they get any offense going in this game.
Before Rams fans start thinking this game is a walk in the park, they should recognize the strength of the Patriots’ defense. The Rams offense hasn’t been their usually elite selves this season. In fact, they’re only 17th in scoring offense. As a result, tonight’s Thursday Night Football game could be a slow, methodical defensive-minded game.
Even so, the Rams are a tough matchup for the Patriots’ offense. Therefore, they’re the clear favorites leading up the game.
