‘I Don’t Trust Daryl Morey’ — Marcus Morris Sr. Destroys His Former NBA GM in Scathing Rant

Marcus Morris Sr. has played for several teams over his 13-year NBA career. He’s suited up for the Houston Rockets, Phoenix Suns, Detroit Pistons, Boston Celtics, Cleveland Cavaliers, New York Knicks, Los Angeles Clippers, and Philadelphia 76ers.

With such a lengthy playing career, Morris has worked with a variety of coaches and general managers. While the player-coach relationship is important, sometimes players and general managers don’t always see eye-to-eye.

Recently, Morris spoke out about one of his former general managers, taking offense to comments made in a recent interview.

Marcus Morris Sr. Directs Comments at Daryl Morey

Morris took issue with Daryl Morey after Morey’s appearance on the Pablo Torre Finds Out show. Morey admitted to using AI to help with team decisions during the interview but clarified that AI wasn’t the sole factor in decision-making.

Morris Sr. wasn’t happy with Morey’s comments and didn’t hold back, addressing him directly. He cited a lack of trust, criticizing Morey’s reliance on AI and questioning what both AI and Morey truly know about basketball.

“I don’t trust Daryl Morey. I just don’t trust him. I think he’s thinking too far ahead of how basketball should be played. He’s trying to build a whole new team, bringing guys in, flipping them in and out, in and out.

“Does he even understand the dynamic of being in Philadelphia and what kind of guys you need to play here? You need to understand how the team needs to gel before you start talking about AI.”

Morris played for Morey while with the Philadelphia 76ers, though he only appeared in 37 games during the 2023-24 season in a limited role. Morris averaged 6.7 points and 2.9 rebounds, shooting 43.9% from the field and 40% from 3-point range before being traded to the Cavaliers.

Can Morris Find a New Role in the NBA?

Despite his feelings about Morey using AI for decisions, Morris remains without an NBA team this season. After being released by the New York Knicks, the 13-year veteran has yet to sign with another team.

Morris offers aggression, defense, and 3-point shooting, so there’s a chance some teams might look his way as the playoffs approach.

If not, a year away from the game could allow him to work on his health and sharpen his skills. Will Morris find his way onto an NBA roster before the season ends? Only time will tell.
