“Boston May Not Allow That” — Mookie Betts Reveals His Culture Shock After Leaving Red Sox for Dodgers

Mookie Betts was a superstar with the Boston Red Sox. However, he was traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers along with David Price in exchange for a package featuring Alex Verdugo shortstop Jeter Downs, and catcher Connor Wong.

Betts wound up signing a massive 12-year, $365 million deal and has been instrumental to the success of the Dodgers, who are fresh off a World Series title.

The transition from the Red Sox to the Dodgers was a big one in many ways, and Betts spoke about some of that recently.

Betts spoke on Underdog MLB with Jared Carrabis and he had some insight into the podcast fiasco after going from the Red Sox to the Dodgers.

Carrabis asked Betts about being able to have a podcast.

“In Boston, I was in a different place in life,” Betts said. “You keep your head down, you stay focused, and you take care of your job. And I’m very, very thankful for that.”

“As I’ve gotten older, you have to set up that next part of life, and you can’t wait until the end to do it,” Betts continued. “I feel like God has blessed me with the ability to do both.”

“At the time when I was in Boston, I wasn’t ready to do that, but also the market of Boston may not allow that (having a podcast). Especially you go out, I have a podcast, and then 0-for-4, I’m getting crushed,” Betts added.

Now, Betts can have a podcast and play baseball, and the Dodgers star is doing great in both aspects of his journey as the Dodgers embark in hopes of another World Series run.

Betts’ Podcast has Lots of Notable Guests

Betts’ podcast is titled “On Base With Mookie Betts” and features all types of guests. A few months ago, he had some Dodgers teammates such as Freddie Freeman and Walker Buehler (who is now with the Red Sox) make an appearance.

Betts also has other MLB superstars hop on the podcast. Some of those include Atlanta Braves star Ozzie Albies and San Diego Padres sensation Fernando Tatis Jr. as well as Arizona Diamondbacks youngster Corbin Carroll.

While Betts admits he is grateful for his time in Boston, especially with stars such as Dustin Pedroia and David Ortiz, he is happy to be able to think about the next part of his once his playing career comes to an end.
