Yankees News: AL East Rival Speaks Out in Support of Bronx Skipper Aaron Boone

Aaron Boone has been the New York Yankees’ manager since 2018, and in each season, he’s finished with a winning record. In 2024, Boone led the Yankees to a 94-68 record, winning the American League East and the AL pennant. However, they fell short in the World Series, losing to the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Despite the team’s success, Yankees fans have been highly critical of Boone, and some were surprised when he received a contract extension this offseason.

Red Sox Manager Alex Cora Defends Yankees’ Aaron Boone

The Boston Red Sox and Yankees faced off in their final spring training matchup, but before the game, Red Sox manager Alex Cora spoke to Chris Kirschner of The Athletic about Boone.

“That guy over there, man, gets a lot of s*** from people but he’s one of the best.”

It’s not often that a rival manager publicly praises a Yankees manager, especially one who hasn’t won a World Series. Cora, who won the 2018 title with Boston, knows the pressure of managing in a high-stakes environment.

Both New York and Boston are contenders in the AL East this season, with strong odds to make the playoffs. The Red Sox have been a trendy pick to return to October, while injuries have some Yankees fans worried about their team’s chances. With several key players sidelined, some believe 2025 could be Boone’s last year if the Yankees fail to deliver.

Some MLB fans, though, reacted to Cora’s comments with skepticism.

One fan speculated that Cora’s praise was because other teams easily outmanage Boone.

“Of course the rest of the league wants Boone over there. Every game out, good managers have a big advantage over him. They’re not interested in the Yankees leveling the field by hiring a manager who manages.”

Another fan suggested that Cora’s comments were sarcastic.

“He just wants to be able to keep facing him. Not the compliment wanted from a rival competitor.”

One fan believes that whenever the Yankees face the Red Sox, Cora outmanages Boone.

“Cora out manages Boone every time. I don’t want to put it all on Boone because it’s a ‘collaborative effort’ but Cora roasts the Yankees for fun. Out scouts them, out works them. See the 9 steal game and playoffs for example.”

At some point in 2025, there will be a game between the Yankees and Red Sox where a managerial decision could make the difference. If Boone gets outmanaged by Cora, Yankees fans will let their frustration be known on social media.

If New York doesn’t win a World Series this season, some might wonder if they ever will under Boone. Many saw 2024 as their best shot, and now time is running out.
