MLB Commissioner Claims Dodgers Are the New-Age ‘Evil Empire’ But With One Key Difference

The Los Angeles Dodgers’ ownership group and front office have worked hard to put the best possible roster on the field. They have spent more money than any team in baseball and have what many people would consider a super team.

Last season, the Dodgers won the World Series and still found a way to be the most improved team this year. They signed the likes of Roki Sasaki, Blake Snell, and Michael Conforto to improve an already-loaded roster. This Dodgers team has the potential to be a dynasty in the making, which makes them so much fun to watch.

Rob Manfred Claims Dodgers are “Evil Empire”

In an interview with ESPN reporter Alden Gonzalez, MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred said the Dodgers are “probably more profitable on a percentage basis than the old Yankees were, meaning it could be more sustainable, so it is more of a problem.”

The Dodgers are highly profitable due to their star player, Shohei Ohtani.

He is a worldwide superstar thanks to being a native of Japan, and people come from all walks of life to try and see him play. Another excerpt from the article noted that “Ohtani had MLB’s top-selling jersey by a wide margin.

“With him on the roster, the Dodgers struck sponsorship agreements with 11 different Japanese companies during the 2024 season. Two Ohtani bobblehead giveaways prompted fans to line up outside Dodger Stadium up to 10 hours before the first pitch.”

    Dodgers Becoming a Worldwide Brand

One reason the Dodgers are opening this season in Japan is Ohtani. He draws a massive crowd and will have all eyes on him when he takes the plate in Tokyo. The Dodgers have also done very well in the Japanese market of late, with the signings of Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Sasaki.

If you are not a Dodgers fan, you are likely jealous of their front office and willingness to spend money. Each offseason, they do what is necessary to try and put the best team on the field; it seems like they once again did that in 2025.

The Dodgers are the heavy favorite to win the 2025 World Series, but that depends on whether they can stay healthy. Injuries have been their Achilles heel over the past few seasons, and if they strike again, that could derail their dreams of back-to-back championships.

All baseball fans should be thrilled to welcome MLB back when the Dodgers take on the Chicago Cubs on March 18 to open the season.
