As Aaron Rodgers keeps the Pittsburgh Steelers and New York Giants waiting, at least one of those teams has started looking elsewhere. Holding the third overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, the Giants face the possibility of missing out on both of this year’s top quarterback prospects.
With that in mind, the team continues to schedule meetings with established veterans, including two Super Bowl winners.

Giants and Steelers Wait on Aaron Rodgers
The veteran quarterback market currently revolves around two teams—the Steelers and the Giants. Pittsburgh has watched top free-agent options sign elsewhere, and after alienating 2024 starter Russell Wilson, they find themselves in a precarious position with dwindling options.
The Giants are also without a clear starter, and some would argue they lack a solid backup as well, with Tommy DeVito as the only quarterback currently under contract. After moving on from Daniel Jones in 2024, the organization is seeking a fresh start and has built up young talent in recent drafts.
But while the Steelers continue to wait—essentially at the mercy of Rodgers’ decision—the Giants are taking a more proactive approach. With no playoff expectations for 2025, New York could opt for a temporary bridge quarterback to help them through the upcoming season.
With more flexibility in their decision-making, the Giants have scheduled meetings with three veteran quarterbacks, while Rodgers decides which team to bless with his presence in 2025.
Giants Schedule Visits With Russell Wilson, Joe Flacco, and Jameis Winston
Clearly unwilling to sit back and wait for Rodgers’ decision, the Giants have been busy exploring other quarterback options.

Russell Wilson started 11 games for the Steelers, winning six, but has been exploring other teams after Pittsburgh made it clear that Rodgers is their first choice. Wilson, like Jameis Winston, is looking to prove he is still a starting-caliber NFL quarterback.
Joe Flacco, meanwhile, began the 2024 season as a backup to Anthony Richardson and would likely accept a similar role in 2025, especially if the Giants draft a quarterback in April. Winston would also allow New York to draft a young quarterback, while Wilson would likely seek assurances of a starting job.
And, to be fair to Wilson, his ranking of 17th overall in PFSN’s QB+ metric for 2024 suggests he deserves another starting opportunity. In fact, Wilson was the only one of the three veteran quarterbacks meeting with the Giants who outscored Rodgers in that metric last season. Wilson finished with a QB+ score of 75.3, compared to Rodgers’ 72.2.
Flacco and Winston ranked 23rd and 29th, respectively, in 2024, with scores of 71.3 and 65.7. While Winston posted the lowest score, he would bring entertainment value that wouldn’t go unnoticed in New Jersey.
While their 2025 quarterback situation isn’t completely in their own hands, the Giants won’t be short on options when the QB dominoes start to fall.
