Mike Trout Hopes for Divine Help To Overcome Injury Woes Amid a Huge Blow to Angels’ Playoff Dream

The Los Angeles Angels have not made the playoffs since the 2014 season when they won the American League West. Ever since that moment, they have been trying to get back.

One of the reasons behind their struggles is outfielder Mike Trout’s battles with injuries. Over the last five seasons, Trout has played 100 or more games only once. In 2024, he only appeared in 29 games. For Los Angeles to get back on track, he will need to play in more games. Trout isn’t the only player on the roster who is dealing with injury issues.

Los Angeles Angels Mike Trout Speaks Out About Injuries

Trout had a recent interview with “Mike DePodcast” where he talked about the upcoming 2025 season and how past injuries might make him stronger.

“I think the last couple of years have been tough. People say you go through things to come out better, so that’s the mentality. I have good home support. I know the Lord up top knows His plan, He’s got a plan for me and I just trust Him.”

Trout’s numbers from last season reflect how much time he missed. In 29 games, he hit .220 with 10 home runs and 14 RBIs, along with six stolen bases. His on-base percentage was .325.

If Trout stays healthy, the Angels have a chance to improve. However, they’re already dealing with another injury before Opening Day. Third baseman Yoán Moncada, who signed with the Angels after spending 2017-24 with the Chicago White Sox, is expected to miss time.

Manager Ron Washington announced on Sunday, March 16, that Moncada will miss some time with a “deep bruise” on his thumb.

“Looks like he’s on the shelf for a minute. Nothing is torn, just got some deep bruises and we gotta let it settle down before we start letting him try to hit,” Washington said.

Moncada played only 12 games last season with the White Sox, hitting .275 with zero home runs and RBIs. His on-base percentage was .356. If Moncada isn’t ready for Opening Day, Kevin Newman could start at third base for Los Angeles.

With multiple injuries already affecting the roster, even a healthy Trout might not be enough to snap the Angels’ playoff drought.
