It has been a year since Angel Reese took her talents to the WNBA, leaving behind an impressive legacy at LSU. Nevertheless, her former Tigers teammates continue to speak highly of her.
For instance, LSU point guard Mikaylah Williams shared that the Chicago Sky forward has been an influential figure in her career and remains so.
Angel Reese Is a Stalwart Figure for LSU’s Mikaylah Williams
Williams participated in a promotional event for Raising Cane’s, where she took counter and drive-thru orders while greeting fans at the chain’s original location, “The Mothership.” During the event, Williams said Reese’s approach has helped her step up as a leader in the absence of the Bayou Barbie.
“With Angel, it’s just being unapologetically yourself, and that’s kind of something that I’ve stepped into, like being able to speak up in front of my team and be a leader,” Williams said. “So that’s something she really instilled in me.”
Reese and Williams were teammates at LSU during the 2023-24 season. Their chemistry and talent stood out on the court, but they fell short in the NCAA Tournament, getting eliminated in the Elite Eight.
Beyond Reese, Caitlin Clark Is on Williams’ Mind
The rivalry between Indiana Fever’s Caitlin Clark and the Sky’s Reese started in the NCAA and has carried over into the WNBA. Williams praised both players for their impact on women’s basketball.
“They are growing the women’s game like no other,” she said. “Angel doing what she’s doing, Unrivaled, Caitlin Clark doing what she does, I’m just glad to be able to follow in their footsteps and hopefully still have that impact for the people coming behind me.”

As she prepares for her first NCAA Tournament without Reese by her side, Williams recalls the excitement around their games, especially when Clark was involved.
“Obviously, Caitlin Clark is amazing, and the atmosphere with her in it was amazing,” she said.
This time, all eyes will be on Williams. After falling to Texas in the SEC Tournament, she is determined to make a deep run in the NCAA Tournament and win another national championship for the Tigers.
On Saturday, March 22, the No. 3-seeded Tigers will take on the No. 14-seeded San Diego State Aztecs in the first round at Pete Maravich Assembly Center.
