Joey Bosa Reveals Text Message From Bills QB Josh Allen

In a video clip posted on X by reporter Dan Fetes, Bosa reflected on his feelings after inking his deal with Buffalo.

The five-time Pro Bowler said, “I’m just excited, like I said, to experience something new, something different, and that’s gonna be really special. You know, (it’ll be) the last year in the stadium, we have a chance to do something special.

Josh texted me that if we do what we set out to do, we could be really immortalized in this town. That’s what it’s all about. Winning. Winning a championship. And I think that’s why people are here.”

This message resonated deeply with Bosa, who is eager to secure a championship as he enters his 10th NFL season. Allen’s text encapsulated the Bills’ ambition and the impact a Super Bowl win could have on their legacy in Buffalo.

Bosa continued, “Playing with a quarterback like Josh, playing for a coach like Coach McDermott, it’s the right situation for me, the right culture. It feels right, including the people in Buffalo—they’re locked in with one goal, and that’s winning. It’s been really close, and I think it’s long overdue to get over that hump.”

As Bosa approaches his age-30 season, he knows his championship window is narrowing. “I’m getting old, and I’m ready to win,” he stated, emphasizing his urgency to earn a ring. Under Allen’s leadership, the Bills have been perennial contenders, clinching their fifth consecutive AFC East title in 2024 but once again falling short in the playoffs.

    How Bosa’s Signing Impacts Bills

Bosa will form a formidable pass-rushing duo with Greg Rousseau, Buffalo’s sack leader in 2024, and is expected to help fill the void left by Von Miller, who was released with three years left on his contract. While Miller’s stat line didn’t stand out last season, PFF awarded him a pass-rush grade of 83, ranking him 11th out of 211 edge rushers.

Despite starting only nine games for the Chargers in 2024, Bosa still earned a Pro Bowl selection. However, durability remains a concern—he hasn’t played a full season since 2019, missing 23 games from 2022-24 while playing less than 54% of defensive snaps in that span.

PFSN analyst Sterling Xie ranked Buffalo 18th in his 2024 defensive rankings, giving the unit a C- grade and noting that last season “was largely billed as a rebuilding year for this unit.” Now, the Bills hope a pass rusher with something to prove can help turn things around.

Buffalo’s pass rush ranked in the top 10 in hurry percentage and pressure rate last season but was closer to the league average in knockdowns and sacks. Bosa is expected to give those numbers a boost. He earned a 64.1 pass-rush grade in the regular season from PFF, ranking 86th out of 211 defensive ends. His 66.0 pass-rush grade in the postseason placed him 23rd out of 60 edge rushers.

Will Bosa be the difference-maker for Buffalo? Josh Allen certainly thinks so.
