NBA Insider Provides Crucial Jalen Brunson Injury Update As Knicks Gear Up for Playoffs

Injuries are never ideal, but when it’s your franchise point guard heading into the playoffs? That’s nightmare fuel for any team.

New York Knicks star Jalen Brunson has been sidelined with a sprained ankle since March 5. The franchise, along with the fans, have been holding their breath ever since. Finally, there’s some clarity on his status, courtesy of a major NBA insider.

New York Knicks Cautious, But Jalen Brunson’s Return Is Coming

NBA insider Shams Charania provided an update on “NBA Countdown.” He reported that Brunson is expected to miss at least a couple more weeks as he works on reducing swelling and regaining mobility in his ankle.

Shams also tweeted about the injury report saying, “Knicks’ Jalen Brunson expected out through late March/early April, and fallout from Mikal Bridges and Tom Thibodeau meeting.”

The Knicks aren’t rushing the recovery process—ensuring that Brunson is 100% for the postseason is their top priority. “They know they need to get him right for the playoffs. That’s of the utmost importance,” Charania said.

There are 16 games left in the regular season. The Knicks currently sit comfortably in the No. 3 seed in the Eastern Conference, seven games behind the second-seed Boston Celtics, but four games ahead of the fourth-seed Milwaukee Bucks.

As long as they avoid a major collapse, New York is on track to host a first-round series, buying Brunson more time to fully recover.

Playoff Push and All-NBA Motivation for Brunson

Brunson has been the core offensive force for the Knicks this season. He’s been their best closer, averaging 26.3 points, 7.4 assists, and shooting 38.4% from deep. He is also a strong contender for an All-NBA selection.

The problem? He needs to play at least 65 games to qualify, which means he has to return before the regular season ends.

On the bright side, the Knicks’ upcoming schedule features some favorable matchups, giving them a chance to stay on track without Brunson. But make no mistake—New York needs Brunson at full strength to make any real noise in the playoffs.

If all goes according to plan, he could return in early April, giving him just enough time to shake off the rust before the postseason begins.

For now, Knicks fans can breathe a little easier. The finish line is in sight, and their star floor general should be back just in time for the biggest games of the year.
