CM Punk has a long-standing rivalry with Seth Rollins. The two faced off on the very first episode of “WWE Raw” this year, on Jan 6, where the former secured a victory. The Second City Saint then eliminated Rollins — and Roman Reigns — at the Royal Rumble, further fueling tensions.
At Elimination Chamber, Punk once again took out Rollins, but in frustration, Rollins delivered a brutal stomp to Punk’s head, ultimately costing him the match. Their rivalry is already at a boiling point, and according to WWE Hall of Famer John “Bradshaw” Layfield (JBL), things could get even bigger — with a former WWE Divas Champion potentially making her return.
CM Punk and Seth Rollins To Compete in Mixed Tag Team Match?
Earlier, in one of his promos, Punk mentioned Becky Lynch on the mic, telling her, “You better come get your man because if I get to him before you do, I’m going to put him in a wheelchair.” That comment led to speculation that the former WWE Women’s Champion could enter the feud. Many also believe that Punk’s wife, AJ Lee, might come out of retirement for a mixed tag team match.
During a recent episode of the “Something to Wrestle With Bruce Prichard” podcast, JBL was asked if Lee could return for this match at WrestleMania 41.
“I think that would be fantastic. You know, I don’t have anything negative to say about this stuff. People say, ‘Why are you so positive?’ Because I think it’s freaking awesome,” he said.
“AJ Lee was fantastic, I did a lot of commentary with her when she did guest commentary, she’s a very smart person, she’s very good at what she does. She was an incredibly popular person. Her coming back, I think, would be enormous and I think that’d be a lot of fun to have her and CM against Becky and Seth.”
A Mixed Tag Team Match or a Triple Threat?
While JBL and many fans would love to see a mixed tag team match featuring Rollins and Punk with their wives, the chances of this match happening seem slim.
During Rollins and Punk’s recent steel cage match on “WWE Raw,” Roman Reigns made a shocking return and launched a brutal attack on both men. Reigns had been absent since the Royal Rumble, where Punk eliminated him alongside Rollins.
With The Tribal Chief now back in the mix, a mixed tag team match appears unlikely. Instead, most fans are speculating about a triple-threat match between these three superstars. According to rumors, this match could even headline the first night of WrestleMania 41.
