How Old Is Cooper Kupp? Examining the Veteran WR’s Age as Free Agency Decision Nears

Cooper Kupp will sport another team’s threads for the first time since being selected No. 69 by the Los Angeles Rams in the 2017 NFL Draft. Despite wanting to remain in Los Angeles, Kupp was released on March 12.

Since entering the NFL eight seasons ago, Kupp has been a cornerstone of Sean McVay’s offense. On his way to helping lead the Rams to a Super Bowl victory, Kupp earned the elusive triple crown in 2021 with 145 receptions, 1,947 yards, and 16 touchdowns and was named the Offensive Player of the Year.

How Old Is Ex-Rams Receiver Cooper Kupp?

Like many aging athletes, Kupp has seen a decline in performance over the past few years. Injuries have played a significant role in Kupp dropping from second in EPA per target to 45th (out of 51 qualified receivers) in the past two years.

Despite injury setbacks, Kupp still managed north of 700 receiving yards each of the past three seasons and 17 total touchdowns. Kupp’s red-zone usage has also declined, raising questions about his ability to perform in high-leverage situations as he ages, likely contributing to his release.

Kupp is 31 years old and will turn 32 one month before training camp begins on June 15, 2025.

Kupp Bids Farewell to Rams, Fans in Heartfelt Social Media Post

Moments after his release, Kupp took to X to bid farewell to Los Angeles, the city he has called home since his rookie season.

“Thank you for these shared moments. Thank you, LA, for welcoming my family with open arms and allowing us to grow here. Next chapter starts now. Best is yet to come,” Kupp wrote.

When Kupp turns the page to that next chapter, what city might it be in?

Bills, Texans Among Kupp’s Potential Landing Spots in Free Agency

A change of scenery could be just what the doctor ordered. PFSN’s Scott DiBenedetto compiled a list of four potential landing spots for Kupp that could use the savvy veteran’s services. Among them are the Buffalo Bills and Houston Texans.

A lack of pass-catching talent has been the undoing of Josh Allen’s Bills year after year, and Kupp could help in that department. On the downturn of his career, Kupp certainly won’t be their savior, but Buffalo could use another receiver.

Meanwhile, the Texans can’t catch a break with their wide receivers. Nico Collins is a bona fide star, but breakout talent Tank Dell suffered a season-ending knee injury in Week 16 and could potentially miss the 2025 season due to the severe nature of his injury. Stefon Diggs, acquired from the Bills via trade in 2024, is an unrestricted free agent.

Kupp could fill Diggs’ role as the Texans don’t need him to be a superstar; he could be just another guy to take some of the heat off Collins.

No matter where Kupp lands, he remains confident in his abilities and wants to make a comeback. In a March 8 exclusive with the Los Angeles Times, he said, “I can still do it. I want to do it for four more years at least, and I plan to be playing at a high level. That’s just where I see myself.”

“When I see myself on film, I’m progressing. Things are moving forward,” Kupp said.
