‘It’s an Easy Choice’ – NFL Analyst Argues That Aaron Rodgers’ Free Agency Decision Is Obvious

The biggest name left in NFL free agency (in terms of popularity rather than performance) is future Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Rodgers, who was cut by the New York Jets after the season, has been linked to a couple of teams. But one NFL analyst believes his decision should be an easy one, arguing that it’s obvious which team he should choose.

Does Aaron Rodgers Have an ‘Obvious’ Choice?

It appears the two teams still in the Rodgers sweepstakes are the Pittsburgh Steelers and New York Giants, though there has been little public reporting on which team holds the edge.

However, Kyle Brandt of NFL Network believes it’s an “easy choice” between the Steelers and Giants.

“If I’m Rodgers and I have both of these guys vying for me, I’m going to Pittsburgh… The Giants, to me, feel like the Jets… I think Mike Tomlin is so different than Robert Saleh or Brian Daboll — a guy who is so established, has been there, has a Super Bowl ring.

“This Rodgers thing? Maybe it’s Vikings-era Brett Favre, maybe it’s Broncos-era Peyton Manning, and maybe they do catch fire and change this. Or maybe they go 5-12 again, and that might not be the worst thing going into next year. For once, you (the Steelers) can actually have a decent draft pick.

“I look at Pittsburgh, and I look at the Giants, and it’s Pittsburgh 10 out of 10 times.”

Brandt makes a compelling case for Rodgers choosing the Steelers over the Giants, with the biggest factor being the quality of the roster. It’s hard to argue that New York is just a quarterback away, while Pittsburgh, famously, has never had a losing season under Mike Tomlin.

The Steelers have made the playoffs in four of the last five seasons despite below-average quarterback play, so if Rodgers has anything left in the tank, there’s a real possibility that Pittsburgh could make a playoff run next season.

Unfortunately, there has been no clarity on when Rodgers will make a decision. All that has been reported so far is that there is no official timetable, according to Peter Schrager of NFL Network. For now, all eyes remain on Rodgers as he navigates his offseason and decides where to continue his career next season.
