A’ja Wilson and Becky Hammon have enjoyed one of the most successful player-head coach partnerships in the WNBA. The Las Vegas Aces pair is ready to reclaim their crown this upcoming season.
The desire of the Aces to be in consideration for the championship again can be gauged by Wilson’s birthday wish to HC Hammon.
A’ja Wilson’s Birthday Wish to Becky Hammon Reminds Fans of the Aces’ Glory Days
On March 11, Hammon celebrated her 48th birthday. The former San Antonio Stars point guard is one of the most celebrated head coaches in the league. Wilson is her star player, and both led the Aces to back-to-back WNBA championships in 2022 and 2023.
However, they could not threepeat in 2024, bowing out against the New York Liberty in the semifinals. The six-time WNBA All-Star Wilson took the opportunity of Hammon’s birthday to reignite the fire of championship glory.
She also highlighted Aces player development coach John Lucas III in her birthday wishes on Instagram stories. Her first story was a simple birthday wish for Hammon, while her second one struck a chord with the Aces’ fanbase.
She uploaded a picture of herself with Hammon, in which both women hold the WNBA trophy and smile big.
“In the famous words of @jl3basketball [John Lucas III] ‘HAPPY G DAY COACH,’” she captioned her story.

Wilson was at her usual best last season, setting a WNBA record of 26.9 average points per game. Hammon and the Aces fans will look for a similar output from her again in 2025.
Wilson Is Not in Favor of League Stoppage Ahead of CBA Negotiations
While Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese has threatened to sit out the WNBA season if the upcoming CBA negotiations do not raise the players’ salaries, Wilson is not entirely on the same wavelength.
Asked A’ja Wilson at the Sloan conference about the possibility of a WNBA work stoppage as players negotiate a new CBA: “I feel like we can make things work. It’s going to take a lot, but I don’t even want to say that or think that…We shouldn’t even have to get to that point.”

“I feel like we can make things work,” Wilson said to ESPN’s Michele Steele. “It’s going to take a lot, but I don’t even want to say that or think that…We shouldn’t even have to get to that point.”
Wilson’s words will come as a dose of encouragement for the WNBA fans. However, they’re not out of the storm yet. After the rise in popularity, the CBA negotiations are set to be complicated.
