When Will Aaron Rodgers Make His Free Agency Decision? NFL Insider Offers Potential Timeline

Even though NFL free agency is in full swing, some of the biggest dominos have yet to fall — most notably in the veteran quarterback market, including Aaron Rodgers.

Rodgers, who spent two disappointing years in New York with the Jets, will be on a new team for the 2025 season, as the Jets made it clear they were not bringing him back and proved as much by agreeing to a deal with Justin Fields in free agency.

When and where will Rodgers sign? Well, that part is still a mystery.

Aaron Rodgers’ Timetable Could Be ‘4 Weeks’

The two teams that Rodgers has been most heavily linked to are the New York Giants and the Pittsburgh Steelers. Those teams are hoping for some sort of resolution, but Rodgers hasn’t given any indication of when he will make a decision, leaving both organizations in limbo.

And per Peter Schrager of NFL Network, Rodgers could take up to a month before making up his mind.

“Rodgers, we know, is going somewhere. And it might not just be a week. It might be two weeks, three weeks, four weeks. If you think you know the answer to what Aaron Rodgers’ timetable is, you know more than the Steelers or the Giants do. Because I’ve spoken to sources on both sides, and everyone’s kind of got that shrug emoji. We’re waiting, we’re seeing, giving him his space, let him decide.”

So, the Giants and Steelers are in a holding pattern, waiting for Rodgers to make his decision.

It also remains to be seen what, if anything, Rodgers has left in the tank. His final season in Green Bay, back in 2022, was disappointing, as the Packers missed the playoffs and traded him to the Jets the following offseason.

Rodgers spent two seasons with the Jets, as mentioned earlier, missing nearly all of 2023 with a torn Achilles and returning with below-average play in 2024.

An argument can be made that, despite being 41 years old and turning 42 in December, Rodgers’ play could improve now that he is a full year removed from the injury. On the other hand, it has been three full seasons since we’ve seen him perform at a high level, so he might just be a below-average QB at this stage in his career.

Whether it’s the Giants or the Steelers, either team will hope that the first argument is correct and that Rodgers still has something left to offer.
