When Is the MLB Trade Deadline in 2025? League Reveals Date Ahead of Regular Season

The trade deadline is one of the most exciting points of each MLB season. It is when fans find out which teams are serious about competing for the World Series and which are looking to trade their players for future assets. The date for the 2025 season’s MLB trade deadline has been announced.

July 31 Trade Deadline Confirmed for 2025 MLB Season

Jeff Passan of ESPN reported that the 2025 MLB trade deadline will be July 31 at 6 p.m. ET. That marks the deadline for teams to trade ahead of the final two months of the regular season.

Each year, multiple impact players are moved at the deadline. It will be interesting to see which players could be on the move in 2025.

Players in the final year of their contract are always potential trade candidates, as their current team might have no plan to re-sign them or just want to get extra assets in case they aren’t confident a player will return.

Some players that fit the bill include Bo Bichette, Luis Arraez, Luis Robert Jr., Dylan Cease, and Michael King. All these players have had their names in trade rumors recently, and depending on how the season goes, it could give us a better idea of whether they will be moved.

    Biggest Trade Deadline Moves

Let’s take a look at some of the biggest trade deadline deals in recent years.

In 2017, the Detroit Tigers traded Justin Verlander to the Houston Astros for a package of prospects. That deal paid off right away for the Astros, who won the World Series that season with Verlander playing a key role. During his time in Houston, he won two Cy Young Awards and helped the team win two championships. This was one of the most impactful trade deadline moves of the past decade.

Another major deadline deal came in 2022, when the Washington Nationals traded Juan Soto to the San Diego Padres for a package of top prospects. The deal seemed to work out for both sides — the Padres got Soto, who helped them reach the NLCS that year, while the Nationals landed potential future stars in CJ Abrams, MacKenzie Gore, and James Wood.

The trade deadline is when teams make bold moves to chase a championship. It’ll be fun to see who takes those swings this season.
