Gerrit Cole Pens Emotional Message To Yankees Fans After Getting Sidelined For 2025 Season

It was announced on Monday that Gerrit Cole will undergo Tommy John Surgery and will miss the entire 2025 season for the New York Yankees. This is a huge blow for both Cole and the Yankees.

Gerrit Cole pitched last week in a spring training game and noticed that something was wrong with his elbow. With his season officially ending on Monday, it is going to be interesting to see how New York will replace him in the starting rotation. After the news broke, Cole decided to go to Instagram and talk about the devastating news.

On Monday, Cole decided to go onto his Instagram account and write to his fans about undergoing Tommy John Surgery. He said on his account,

“From the time I first dreamed of wearing the Yankees uniform, my goal has always been to help bring a World Series championship to New York. That dream hasn’t changed—I still believe in it, and I’m more determined than ever to achieve it.

Today, the most respected medical experts in the field recommend that I undergo Tommy John surgery. This isn’t the news any athlete wants to hear, but it’s the necessary next step for my career. I have a lot left to give, and I’m fully committed to the work ahead. I’ll attack my rehab every day and support the 2025 Yankees each step of the way.

I love this game, I love competing, and I can’t wait to be back on the mound—stronger than ever.

    See you soon.

It will be interesting to see if Cole will be ready to start the 2026 MLB season for New York. After 2025, he will have three years remaining on his nine-year $324 million contract. Cole is 34 years old. The Yankees have not won a World Series title since 2009. New York was in the World Series last season against the Los Angeles Dodgers and lost.

He has had a history of injuries throughout his career. Cole only pitched in 17 games last season with the Yankees. His record was 95.0 innings, and he gave up 78 hits and 38 runs. Cole also walked 29 batters and struck out 99 batters. This is not the only injury in the starting rotation that New York is dealing with. Luis Gil is also out for the first few months of the season with a lat injury.

If New York is going to win the AL East or make the playoffs again in 2025, other starting pitchers on the roster are going to have to step up. Cole was supposed to be the number one starter in the rotation this season, but Max Fried is expected to be the ace of this rotation.
