The Los Angeles Dodgers have the luxury of rostering some of the best players in baseball. From Shohei Ohtani to Mookie Betts to Freddie Freeman, the Dodgers have three former MVPs on their roster.
Last season, all three players were exceptional, but Freeman had to go through a lot on and off the field. Yet, Freeman said in a recent interview that he feels loved by all Los Angeles fans.
Freddie Freeman Speaks About Dodger Fans
Freeman joined the Foul Territory show to discuss his 2024 season and the emotional ups and downs he went through. Freeman said, “Every time I walked onto that field, they’ve treated me like one of their own.”
Freeman missed time last season while one of his children was hospitalized. He spoke about how good it made him feel when the fans started chanting his name and gave him a standing ovation during his first game back. The Dodgers fans rallied around Freeman during a tough time, which is why he loves this fanbase.
After spending the first 12 years of his career with the Atlanta Braves, it must have been tough for Freeman to leave the only franchise he knew. But the opportunity in Los Angeles was too good to pass up, and it has been well worth it so far.
Hall of Fame Potential?
A.J. Piersynski mentioned in the clip above that Freeman will have a tough decision to make when choosing what team to go into the Hall of Fame with.
Even at age 35, Freeman is at the peak of his powers. He is coming off a season where he hit .282 with 22 home runs and 89 RBIs. He even had the most memorable play of the season, hitting a walk-off grand slam in Game 1 of the World Series.
Freeman has played 15 seasons so far in his career, and he is one of the best players of his generation. He is a one-time MVP, eight-time All-Star, and two-time World Champion. He has 2,267 hits and a career batting average of .300.
It remains to be seen how much longer Freeman can play, but his contact skills still seem elite. He has an outside chance of reaching 3,000 hits for his career, which would make him a lock for the Hall of Fame if he is not already.
At this point in his career, Freeman only cares about winning championships. His Dodgers have a great chance to go back-to-back this year and add another achievement to Freeman’s legendary career.
