NFL free agency is underway, and teams are making major moves to strengthen their rosters. The Washington Commanders, fresh off an NFC Championship loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, aren’t satisfied. They made several key moves before free agency even began and followed up with a blockbuster trade on the first day.
The Commanders cut star DT Jonathan Allen, who agreed to a deal with the Chicago Bears, and they traded for Deebo Samuel Sr. while giving up a fifth-round pick to the San Francisco 49ers. But they were not done. But the biggest shocker came when they landed five-time Pro Bowl offensive tackle Laremy Tunsil from the Houston Texans in a massive trade.

Micah Parsons Reacts to the Laremy Tunsil Trade
Parsons dropped a comedic reaction to the trade when it dropped. He was completely stunned at the move and let his feelings be known on social media.
“Wtf” Parsons said on X.
Now, Parsons will have to face Tunsil twice a year in divisional matchups. While he may not line up directly against Tunsil on every play, their paths will cross in the trenches. His reaction summed up how many fans felt—this trade came out of nowhere.
The Trade Details and the Commanders’ Outlook Next Season
The Commanders gave up a huge haul to acquire Tunsil’s services. The return for the Texans is a 2025 third-round pick, a 2025 seventh-round pick, a 2026 second-round pick, and a 2026 fourth-round pick. The Commanders did add a 2025 fourth-round pick from the Texans, though, in addition to Tunsil, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
The move is a bit surprising from Houston’s perspective. The Texans struggled to protect quarterback C.J. Stroud last season, and trading away their best offensive lineman won’t make that job any easier.
For Washington, though, it’s a game-changer. Tunsil will provide elite protection for reigning Offensive Rookie of the Year Jayden Daniels, helping solidify an already strong offensive line.
The Commanders have been busy throughout the offseason, reportedly agreeing to a three-year deal with defensive tackle Javon Kinlaw, re-upping with Zach Ertz on a one-year deal, and bringing back linebacker Bobby Wagner. One of the busiest teams this offseason is looking to make waves in the NFC and get over their NFC Championship loss. Adding players like Tunsil and Samuel is exactly how they can bolster their already solid roster.

Parsons is going to have to beware because the Commanders are getting stronger and have shown no signs of going away. The shocking addition of Tunsil has put many players and fans on watch as Parsons displayed his surprised reaction on social media.
The Commanders’ offense should get even better with its additions and a sophomore leap from Daniels; meanwhile, Parsons and the rest of the league are going to have to try to stop them.
