Albert Pujols isn’t one to take a break. Since retiring, the three-time MVP has already added another championship to his list of achievements — this time as a manager. With new opportunities emerging, Pujols is making it clear that his baseball legacy is far from over. Could a major league return be on the horizon?
Albert Pujols to Manage Dominican Republic National Team in 2026 World Baseball Classic
Pujols isn’t slowing down in retirement. Last February, he managed Leones del Escogido in the Dominican Republic’s winter league, guiding them to a championship in the Caribbean Series. Now, he’s preparing to lead the Dominican Republic national team in the first round of the 2026 World Baseball Classic.

Reflecting on his aspirations, Pujols stated, “I feel that I can offer so much to players and to teams … It’s about helping others, and having that passion.” His commitment to mentoring the next generation of players makes this new role a natural fit.
On Oct. 22, 2011, in Game 3 of the World Series, Pujols delivered a historic performance against the Texas Rangers. He went 5-for-6 with three home runs and six RBIs as the St. Louis Cardinals dominated in a 16-7 win.
That incredible feat made him just the third player in World Series history to hit three home runs in a single game, joining Babe Ruth and Reggie Jackson. Pujols also totaled 14 bases in the game, setting a new World Series record.
St. Louis Cardinals’ Struggles Fuel Speculation About Pujols’ Future in Management
Several key figures in baseball are backing Pujols as a future MLB manager. Los Angeles Angels manager Ron Washington believes it’s only a matter of time before Pujols takes the helm of a major league team.
His former Cardinals teammate Yadier Molina is also considering a managerial role, part of a growing trend of former players stepping into leadership positions.
With the Cardinals struggling in recent seasons, speculation about potential changes in management has only grown. Pujols has deep ties to the organization and a natural leadership presence, making him an intriguing candidate for a future role.
As the 2026 World Baseball Classic approaches, all eyes will be on how Pujols leads the Dominican Republic. A strong showing could further boost his managerial credentials and bring him one step closer to an MLB job.
