NFL Draft prospect Cam Skattebo is being sued for negligence, by a former teammate, in a lawsuit claiming over $300,000. The news comes after Skattebo’s breakout season for Arizona State, which has landed him on many NFL draft boards.

Cam Skattebo Sued By Former Teammate
Mattheos Ketergaris alleges that in July. 2023, Skattebo leaped onto a golf cart that he was on, before jumping up and down. Skattebo’s actions allegedly caused the rear bench of the cart to break, sending Katergaris falling to the ground, resulting in a severe elbow injury.
The lawsuit alleges one count of negligence against both Skattebo and the Arizona Board of Regents, which governs Arizona’s universities. The original lawsuit was made against Arizona State, but was amended in January 2025, to include Skattebo.
Arizona State RB Cam Skattebo is facing a lawsuit from former teammate Mattheos Katergaris, who claims Skattebo’s reckless actions caused a severe elbow injury that ended his football career. Katergaris is asking for more than $300,000 in damages.

Lawsuit Relates to a Golf Cart Incident in 2023
The reckless behavior in question is alleged to have happened on the Arizona State practice field in 2023. While Katergaris and another team member were sitting on the cart, it’s said that Skattebo jumped on the vehicle and began “jumping up and down,” causing the rear bench to fail, resulting in Katergaris’ injury.
Speaking to The Arizona Republic, Katergaris’ attorney, Neil Udulutch, explained the reason for Skatterbo’s recent addition to the claim, after the suit was originally filed against Arizona State.
“I’m aware of the speculation and how that looks, but I can’t comment on the rationalization. All I can say is that we became aware that it was actually him that was on the back of the golf cart, jumping up and down, according to my client.”
Speaking on his client’s injuries, Udulutch gave a descriptive account.
“He got a really bad laceration, essentially going all the way down to the bone in his elbow, and it essentially ruptured his distal triceps tendon 90 percent of the way, so he required surgery and months of physical therapy.”
Skattebo Preparing For the NFL Draft
Away from the lawsuit, Skattebo is preparing for the NFL Draft, when he is expected to be picked up by an NFL team on day two. The Arizona State product amassed 2316 all-purpose yards and 24 combined touchdowns in 2024, finishing fifth in the Heisman Trophy voting.
Known for his offensive versatility and physical play style, Skattebo is expected to be a first-year producer in the NFL. With a host of top running back prospects to choose from in April’s draft, however, whoever takes Skattebo will likely do so for his unique skill set, relentless energy, and ability to contribute in the running and passing game.
