Seahawks Insider Reveals Seattle May Not Trade $31.8 Million Star DK Metcalf After All

The Seattle Seahawks have been in discussions with multiple NFL teams about a potential trade involving star wide receiver DK Metcalf. According to the team’s general manager, while talks have taken place, there is no guarantee a deal will get done.

DK Metcalf Requests Trade From Seahawks

After being selected No. 64 overall in the 2019 NFL Draft, Metcalf quickly became a cornerstone of the Seahawks’ identity under former head coach Pete Carroll. But a year after Carroll’s departure, that identity appears to be shifting.

On March 5, reports surfaced that Seattle planned to release longtime receiver Tyler Lockett after 10 seasons with the team. Shortly after, news broke that Metcalf had requested a trade. With one year remaining on his current contract, it was revealed that the team had multiple discussions with him before his request.

Through six NFL seasons, Metcalf has averaged 77 receptions for 1,108 yards and eight touchdowns per 17 games. That production looks even more impressive considering he has missed just five regular-season games in his career.

Seahawks GM John Schneider Doesn’t Rule Out Keeping Metcalf

With an elite talent like Metcalf available, it’s no surprise there is plenty of interest. Speaking to Seattle Sports 710-AM, Seahawks general manager John Schneider confirmed that discussions are already underway.

“Obviously, DK has requested a trade, and we are entertaining that,” Schneider said. “We are talking to a ton of teams, taking offers, seeing what that looks like.”

However, Schneider made it clear that any deal must provide fair value for the organization, emphasizing that the priority is what’s best for ownership and the fan base.

“The thing to understand here is that our responsibility to [owner] Jody Allen, the 12s, first and foremost, is doing what’s absolutely best for the organization, A, and then B, what’s best for the player.

“Hopefully, both those things merge and it’s an ideal situation. Sometimes that happens, sometimes it doesn’t. Hopefully, in this situation, it does, and that would be great.

“But worst-case scenario, we have an amazing, explosive, powerful athlete playing receiver for us again in 2025. So we’ll see where this goes.”

With such a high-profile player on the trade block, Schneider’s seemingly casual approach may not sit well with Seahawks fans. Using phrases like “worst-case scenario” and “this too shall pass,” which he later mentioned in the interview, isn’t the kind of messaging expected from a team that narrowly missed the playoffs in 2024.

Quarterback Geno Smith is also entering the final year of his contract, so the organization will need to provide clearer answers sooner rather than later. As for the fans, they can only hope these decisions are handled with more precision than Schneider’s latest remarks.
