Giants Beat Writer Provides Major Update On Aaron Rodgers Rumors: Will the 4-Time NFL MVP Stay in New York?

The New York Giants enter the 2025 offseason with a new quarterback at the top of their wish list. And according to Giants beat writer Art Stapleton, they might be about to land one of the best of all time.

Giants Still Searching for an Answer at Quarterback

After nearly six injury-hampered years, the Giants finally moved on from the inconsistent Daniel Jones, releasing him after Week 10 of the 2024 season. What followed was an uninspiring combination of Tommy DeVito and Drew Lock, with the latter delivering at just the wrong time.

Lock put together a dominant performance in Week 17, leading the Giants to a 45-33 win over the Indianapolis Colts—ultimately handing the first overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft to the Tennessee Titans. Despite that showing, Lock isn’t expected to keep the starting job, as a future Hall of Famer could be on his way.

Aaron Rodgers to Giants “Would Not Be a Shock”

Appearing on The Pat McAfee Show, Giants beat writer Art Stapleton shared the latest on the team’s quarterback search, suggesting Aaron Rodgers is a legitimate option.

Stapleton stated that the Giants are seriously considering the former Green Bay Packer and have likely had discussions with his representatives. When asked by McAfee whether those talks had already taken place, Stapleton elaborated:

“From my understanding, it has to be part of the negotiation, and I don’t know how much Aaron can be involved with speaking with Giants brass, Brian Daboll, Joe Schoen. But as far as Aaron’s representatives, once the Jets made it clear, my understanding is that he can have his representatives talk to other teams.

Now I don’t know where the numbers are. But you can’t get involved with a player of the caliber of Aaron Rodgers and his résumé without at least having an understanding of what ballpark you have to be in.”

Stapleton’s comments suggest that if the Giants are considering Rodgers, they must believe they can afford him—and that he’d be open to the move. He continued:

“So my understanding is, yes, they have talked about what it would take to get Aaron here, to be with the Giants, to not leave New Jersey. And my understanding is that, at every turn, the Giants have yet to be scared off.”

There aren’t many players in the NFL who divide opinions quite like the now 41-year-old Rodgers. Many view him as a disruptive locker-room presence and a challenging personality to work with.

The Jets fired both head coach Robert Saleh and general manager Joe Douglas during the 2024 season, with some suggesting Rodgers played a role in their departures. However, given the recent struggles of Daboll and Schoen, that likely wouldn’t deter Giants fans.

Regardless, Rodgers would be a clear and welcome upgrade for the Giants, who have a steep climb ahead in the NFC East.
