Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Darius Slay was released from the team on March 3rd following their Super Bowl win. Slay had been a member of the Eagles since 2020, getting named to the Pro Bowl in 2021, 2022, and 2023. In total, he has been named to the Pro Bowl six times throughout his NFL career. however, he had a diminished role in 2024, and as a result, he was released from his contract following the Eagles’ Super Bowl win.
Darius Slay Says He Is Open to Returning to the Philadelphia Eagles
While he was released by the Philadelphia Eagles, the 34-year-old veteran CB understands that it was a business move. By releasing Slay, the Eagles are slated to save $4.3 million next season. As a result, he is not opposed to returning to the Eagles next season if the money is right. He spoke about this in an appearance on ‘The Facility’ on Wednesday.
“The money’s equal and everything equal, it’s Philly for sure. It could be whatever you know what I’m saying, as long as the money’s nice. If anything, if Philly is doing what we want to do, we’re in Philly again.
This is my first time actually seeing the free agent market if I ever get to it. If I don’t get to it, I’ve never been a free agent before so I don’t even really know how that works honestly.”

Earlier in the week, Slay appeared on ‘St. Brown Podcast’ to speak about his future. He spoke about that while he was released, he still wants to play at least one more season.
“I got one more (year left),” Slay said. “You know how that works. So whatever they want to do. I might re-sign back, hopefully. If I ain’t, I got to see what we doing because I do want to play one more year, for sure.”
If Slay returns to Philadelphia, it would likely be a positive for the Eagles locker room. He was voted a team captain last season, and head coach Nick Sirianni spoke about his influence.
“Any time you’re around Slay, he’s got this energy, and this love for his teammates, and this love for football, and this love for life. That’s infectious. There is a reason he continues to be voted a captain on this football team,” Eagles coach Nick Sirianni said this season. “You love having guys like that. We’ve got a lot of guys like that here and Slay is definitely at the top of the list there, just bringing that positive energy every day regardless of the circumstances.”
NFL free agency opens on March 12th.
