Kevin Durant kept things real when discussing the Phoenix Suns and their current predicament. The Suns are struggling to establish themselves as a good team this season and currently hold the 11th spot in the West with a 29-33 record.
Their March 4 win against Kawhi Leonard, James Harden, and the Los Angeles Clippers was quite dramatic. Following the game, Durant was interviewed courtside. Let’s take a look at what he had to say.
Kevin Durant Remains Humble Despite Leading Phoenix Suns to Historic Win
The Suns trailed the Clippers 95-76 heading into the fourth quarter. Although Durant might not have been aware at the time, after outscoring Los Angeles 43 to 22 in the final quarter, the Suns completed the largest fourth-quarter comeback in franchise history.
Durant was informed about this after the game had concluded and was clearly pleased. However, when questioned about the Suns’ goals, Durant explained that thinking too far ahead was counterproductive and that the best thing for him to do was take it one step at a time.
“We can’t think about the big picture too much. We’re in a tough position to be thinking about the playoffs right now. So we gotta focus on each game, each task, each possession ahead of us and see what he can do.”

The two-time NBA champion certainly has the right mentality. It would be unwise to focus on where they will finish the season or how far they can go into the postseason. The best thing for the Suns to do at this point in time is to win as many games as possible. As the season approaches the home stretch, every team across the league will be looking to do the same.
The Suns have upcoming games against top-tier teams like the Rockets, Lakers, and Grizzlies. If they are unable to win the majority of those matchups, they’ll watch any postseason aspirations they had go up in smoke.
