MLB spring training has produced numerous intriguing storylines, with the Washington Nationals emerging as a team poised to potentially leap forward during the 2025 MLB season.
The Nationals finished last season with a 71-91 record, landing them fourth in the National League East. However, the team displayed promising growth with its young talent. Could they take a significant leap during the 2025 MLB season?

Crews, 23, is projected to be one of the starting outfielders for the Nationals on Opening Day. Last season, he played in 31 games, posting a .218 batting average with three home runs and eight RBIs. He also recorded 12 stolen bases and was caught stealing three times. His on-base percentage was .288.
The second overall pick in the 2023 MLB Draft, Crews played college baseball for the LSU Tigers, where he won a national championship. In 2024, he spent time with the Harrisburg Senators in Double-A and the Rochester Red Wings in Triple-A.
It’s highly unlikely that Crews will return to the minor leagues unless he needs a rehab assignment due to an injury. The Nationals are counting on him to have a breakout year in 2025. Sam Dykstra of MLB.com noted that Crews’ promotion to the major leagues in 2024 marked a significant milestone in the team’s rebuilding efforts.
As MLB Pipeline’s newly released Top 30 Prospects list indicates, the influx of young talent into Washington’s major league roster won’t stop with Crews’ graduation in 2025.
Crews will soon graduate from the prospect list, and Travis Sykora is expected to become the top prospect in Washington’s farm system. The future appears bright for the Nationals as they continue to integrate talented young players into their major league roster.
