The New York Mets’ starting pitching is a major question mark heading into the 2025 MLB season. Sean Manaea and Frankie Montas are already sidelined with injuries, adding uncertainty to the team’s rotation.
For now, the projected starting rotation includes Kodai Senga, Clay Holmes, David Peterson, Griffin Canning, and Paul Blackburn. This lineup isn’t considered the strongest in the MLB.
New York Mets Prospect Brandon Sproat Looking To Reach Big Leagues In 2025
Mets prospect Brandon Sproat is ranked #46 on MLB.com and is the top prospect in New York’s organization.
MLB.com writer Sam Dykstra noted, “The Mets made it to last year’s National League Championship Series and proceeded to add one of the game’s true superstars in Juan Soto and re-sign 2024 stalwarts Pete Alonso and Sean Manaea, among a slew of offseason moves. Typically, win-now clubs alter their rosters to the detriment of the depth and overall quality of their farm systems. That is not the case in Queens.
Headlined by three Top 100 prospects, Brandon Sproat, Jett Williams, and Carson Benge, the Mets still boast a deep Top 30 list, ranging from near-Major-League-ready types to big talents just starting their careers.”

Sproat, 24, is projected to start the season in Triple-A with the Syracuse Mets. He was a second-round pick by New York in the 2023 MLB Draft and is expected to reach the majors in 2025.
Last season, he pitched in seven games for Syracuse, recording a 1-2 record with a 7.53 ERA. He allowed 36 hits and 25 runs, walking 11 batters while striking out 21.
In addition to pitching for Syracuse, Sproat also took the mound for the Brooklyn Cyclones in High-A and the Binghamton Rumble Ponies in Double-A, showing steady progress through the minor leagues.
He will need to improve at the start of the 2025 season in Triple-A. If more injuries occur for the Mets during the season, it’s likely that Sproat will get his chance in the majors. The only reasons he might not reach the big leagues in 2025 would be if he struggles in Triple-A or suffers an injury. Sproat has the potential to become the ace of the franchise for the long haul.
