Irving went down in the first quarter of the game against the Sacramento Kings on March 3, a contest Dallas lost 98-122. While driving toward the hoop at the American Airlines Center, the 32-year-old’s left knee bent awkwardly as he attempted a layup.

After crashing on the court, he stayed down for several minutes but had a go at free throws before leaving the game. On Tuesday, ESPN’s NBA insider Shams Charania took to X to announce that Irving’s season is over.

“Breaking: Dallas Mavericks All-Star Kyrie Irving has suffered a season-ending torn ACL in his left knee, sources tell ESPN,” he tweeted.

James was later joined by fans sending their prayers for the 32-year-old as well.

Jason Kidd Talks About Dallas’ Woes After Irving’s Injury

After a shattering loss, the Mavericks head coach, Jason Kidd, talked about Irving’s injury to the press. “Just unlucky,” he said. “I hope that he’s healthy, that it’s not serious.”

However, Kidd’s wishes didn’t come true, and things have gone from bad to worse for the Mavericks. As Irving becomes the latest one who won’t be able to contribute to the Mavs’ season.

Irving isn’t the only one who went down in the game. He was joined by guard Jaden Hardy in the second half. Earlier, Anthony Davis suffered an adductor injury in his debut with the team and has been sidelined.

“It seems every time we get close to getting somebody back, someone goes down,” Kidd said, via The Associated Press.

“Tonight, both (Jaden) Hardy and Kai [Irving] go down. So, we’re running out of bodies here.”

The Mavericks will play their next game on the road against the Milwaukee Bucks on March 5.
