‘We’re Running Out of Bodies’ – Jason Kidd’s Frustration Grows As Kyrie Irving’s Incident Worsens Mavericks’ Injury Woes

When things couldn’t get any worse for the Dallas Mavericks, Kyrie Irving suffered what might be a season-ending knee injury.

Irving’s injury is just among the latest of the many the Mavericks have suffered. It seems they haven’t been able to shake the injury bug. Among those getting fed up with Dallas’ bad luck is head coach Jason Kidd.

Jason Kidd Sounds Off After Kyrie Irving’s Knee Injury

During his postgame press conference, Kidd was brutally honest about all the Mavericks’ injuries this season.

“The injuries that we’ve had this season, guys are trying to hold it together to get other bodies back, and it just seems every time we’re getting close to getting someone back, someone goes down. Tonight, both Jaden (Hardy) and (Irving) go down, and so we’re running out of bodies here, but guys keep fighting,” Kidd said, per The Smoking Cuban’s Noah Weber.

Irving and Hardy join a growing list of Mavericks who have been out with injuries. This list includes Anthony Davis, Dereck Lively II, Daniel Gafford, P.J. Washington, and Caleb Martin. Martin hasn’t even suited up for the Mavericks since they traded for him at the deadline for Quentin Grimes.

All of this is adding up to a season from hell for Dallas. What makes it hurt worse is that it was coming off a surprise run to the NBA Finals a year ago. Now, not only has it been frostbitten with the injury bug, but it also has an extremely questionable long- and short-term future.

Irving has been sensational for the Mavericks this season. He helped keep their season afloat when Luka Dončić was out with an injury. With him gone, they lose their best scorer, which could hurt in the worst way if and when Davis and the others return. The Mavericks have never seemed to get fully healthy this season, and with only so many games left, there’s a chance their squad may never get back to full strength.

Even without the Dončić trade, the 2024-25 season has been pretty much a disaster for the Mavericks. With it, this has to be one of the worst seasons a franchise has gone through. Impressively, they are still in the thick of the playoff race, though if these injuries keep stacking up, they may not be in it for much longer.

Especially if Irving will be out for an extended period, and there’s a chance that might be the case and potentially worse.
