Stephen A. Smith Thinks the OKC Thunder Have Enough Assets to Trade for Kevin Durant
Although Durant has not requested a trade from the Suns, Phoenix’s struggles and their slim postseason hopes have fueled speculation that parting ways with the star forward is inevitable.
Given that Durant is in the latter stages of his career, many are questioning which team should pursue him. Smith believes the Thunder are a team to watch.
“The Oklahoma City Thunder should go and get Kevin Durant back. If you don’t get it done this year, they should go back and get Kevin Durant. They’ve got so many assets, they have stuff to give away, they can’t possibly use all of them…”

The Thunder have a stockpile of future draft picks and young talent, making them one of the few teams that could realistically trade for Durant. However, Oklahoma City is still a young team, and their rising stars are in line for significant contract extensions.
Adding an aging Durant to the roster could impact the team’s ability to offer max contracts to its current core. Moreover, there is no guarantee that acquiring him would improve the Thunder—especially considering they currently hold the best record in the Western Conference.

Regardless, multiple teams are expected to pursue Durant in the offseason. Unless something drastically changes for the Suns, the former MVP could be wearing a new uniform next season.
