‘I Don’t Understand Y’all Hating’ – Shedeur Sanders Defends QB Prospect for Combine Performance

Shedeur Sanders chose not to throw at the 2025 NFL Combine and took to X to support fellow draft prospect after a tough showing in Indianapolis.

The 2025 NFL Scouting Combine is over. Top prospects in the 2025 NFL Draft had a chance to speak with teams face-to-face and impress them on the field. While more big-name players, like Shedeur Sanders, are choosing not to work out in Indianapolis, this event is still a critical data point for many prospects.

Ohio State’s Will Howard is one of those players who needed a strong showing to solidify himself as a draftable player. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen, but the Colorado quarterback took to X to show Howard some support.

Shedeur Sanders Tweets in Support of Will Howard

Sanders led an impressive turnaround at Colorado in 2024, leading the Buffaloes to a 9-4 record. He led the Big 12 in attempts (477), completions (353), passing yards (4,134), and touchdowns (37) last season and became the all-time FBS leader in career completion percentage (71.8%) after connecting on 74% of his passes as a senior.

He’s projected as the top pick in PFSN’s latest seven-round mock draft and focused on the interview portion of the combine. Sanders will wait until his Pro Day to show NFL teams what he can do on the field.

Howard spent his first four college seasons at Kansas State, battling to become the starter in 2023. He transferred to Ohio State last season and led a stacked Buckeyes team to a national championship. Howard threw for 4,010 yards, 35 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions in 2024 and became a serious prospect during his playoff run.

Things did not go well for Howard at Lucas Oil Stadium, missing badly on multiple undefended throws. The small, Big Ten partial crowd in attendance magnified the situation by jeering the quarterback each time he made a mistake.

The Combine workout is just a piece in a prospect’s evaluation, with his in-season performance holding more weight. Sanders tweeted about how tough of a situation this workout is when quarterbacks are throwing to receivers they’ve never played with.

“I don’t understand y’all hating on @whoward_ he just won a natty,” Sanders tweeted in support of the Ohio State signal-caller. “It’s hard to throw to WR’s that you don’t know, everyone run routes different!”

Sanders opted not to throw in Indianapolis, and that’s looking like a smart move. Howard did receive praise from NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah, but fans have already declared his workout the worst combine performance ever.

The Ohio State product was projected as a third-round pick going into Indianapolis but has fallen to the fourth round in PFSN’s latest seven-round mock.

Howard and Sanders are on track to throw at their respective Pro Days and hopefully will have stronger showings throwing to the receivers they played with all season.
