The skill position class coming in with the 2025 NFL Draft is truly something to take a look at. Whether it be wide receivers like Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter, running backs like Heisman Trophy finalist Ashton Jeanty, or arguably the best tight end class in ages, the draft is littered with playmakers.
However, at the NFL Scouting Combine for these players, one man had himself a day. Cam Skattebo from Arizona State was a man possessed, excelling at nearly every drill imaginable. In an instant, he had turned the entirety of social media into his fans.

Cam Skattebo Has Himself a Day at the NFL Combine
The NFL Scouting Combine is an ideal place for teams to get an in-depth look at a player’s overall measurables and also personally assess him with interviews. However, in the case of Skattebo, he made far too lasting an impression from the drills alone.
At the broad jump and vertical jump, he set impressive numbers, going over 10 feet in the former and nearly 40 inches in the latter. His exact measurements were posted by the NFL’s official X profile.
“10’3” broad jump; 39.50” vertical jump…Productive day for Cam Skattebo.”

Everyone was mind-blown by his athleticism, especially the NBA-esque 39.5-inch vertical leap that he displayed. To put it in perspective, “that’s in the 93rd percentile among running backs at the NFL Combine since 1999, per @mockdraftable.”

NFL analyst Sam Monson couldn’t hold back his awe over the running back’s impressive outing in both categories, showcasing his admiration for the Sun Devils star.
“Cam Skattebo jumped over 10 foot broad and 39.5 vert?? Well dayum”

While he didn’t participate in a few of the other drills, his performance was already impressive and in line with some of the elite running backs going into the draft. Logan Stanley, a reporter for The Arizona Republic, was quick to compile how impressive Skattebo had been already.
“He may be skipping the 40-yard dash and some other drills, but Cam Skattebo is certainly making the most out of the NFL Combine. Here’s some data via the Combine IQ from @NextGenStats. Skattebo’s draft score is only behind Ashton Jeanty so far.”

But, of course, it didn’t take long for people to start throwing out hot takes after his performance. One fan was even ready to declare it. “Hot take…Cam Skattebo will be the best running back coming out of this draft class.”

Most current projections have him going somewhere in the third or fourth round. PFSN’s latest mock draft, though, could be ideal for the rookie. Going 112th to the San Francisco 49ers, he could learn from one of the very best in the league, Christian McCaffrey.
Further, with Kyle Shanahan, he would have a true offensive genius as his head coach to help him develop in time and eventually succeed McCaffrey at the position.
Skattebo’s Outlook in PFSN’s Latest Mock Draft
In Dalton Miller’s Top 100 NFL Draft Big Board from January, he ranked Skattebo in the middle of his top 100 prospects, ranking him as his RB5.
“Heroics aside, Skattebo is explosive in a phone booth and possesses impressive duo eyes. Additionally, he possesses three-down traits because of his impressive pass-catching prowess and endless physicality as a pass protector,” Miller said.
“Skattebo won’t knock your socks off with home-run speed, but he sets defenders up well in the open field to make them miss. However, his undying desire to remain upright is reminiscent of James Connor and David Montgomery.”
While Skattebo might not be the most explosive back, he has earned his keep at every level of the sport, and it’s hard not to trust him to do the same in the NFL. It remains to be seen where he will be drafted, but you can find out for yourself by using PFSN’s Free NFL Mock Draft Simulator With Trades.
