As the wife of Philadelphia 76ers star and 2023 NBA MVP Joel Embiid, Anne de Paula is married to one of the biggest names in the league.
A native of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, who is both trilingual and practices Muay Thai, de Paula is a Sports Illustrated swimsuit model. She and Embiid have kept their relationship mostly private since becoming a couple.

Embiid and de Paula had known each other since 2018 but officially married not too long after he won the league’s MVP award on July 22, 2023. Needless to say, it was a good couple of months there for Embiid.
De Paula had admitted in an ESPN interview that she didn’t even know Embiid was a professional basketball player when they first met. That was until he stood up and revealed that he was seven feet tall. She admitted that their relationship was a “beautiful friendship.”
Between their first meeting and marriage, Embiid and de Paula welcomed a son in September 2020 named Arthur Elijah Embiid. Joel named his son Arthur after his late brother, who tragically died in a car accident in 2014.

It turns out Embiid is not the only athlete in the family. De Paula grew up playing soccer and actually played goalie growing up in Brazil. She and Embiid have that in common, as it’s been public knowledge that he played soccer while growing up in Cameroon before basketball.
Of course, the only difference between the two is that Embiid became a professional athlete as he later became acquainted with basketball. De Paula went on to pursue modeling, where she has appeared in Sports Illustrated’s swimsuit issue four times. She did her first photo shoot when she was 12 and signed her first modeling contract when she was 14.
In an interview with Fox News, de Paula admitted that she always tries to go back to Brazil to play soccer when she can.

Embiid is one of the richest players in the NBA, as he’s about to start a three-year contract worth almost $193 million in addition to the nearly $380 million he’s already made throughout his professional career.
