Kevin Durant is one of his era’s most decorated basketball players and one of the greatest of all time. The two-time NBA champion started his professional career in 2007 when the Seattle SuperSonics selected him as the No. 2 overall selection in the 2007 NBA Draft.
After 17 years in the league, Durant knows he is approaching the final chapter of his career and is now envisioning what kind of legacy he wants to leave behind.
Kevin Durant Envisions How Final Chapter of His NBA Career Should Look
After being named the NBA Rookie of the Year in his first year in the league, Durant has gone on to become one of the greatest scorers in history. He’s ranked fourth in the all-time NBA scoring list, and his points-per-game average of 27.2 ranks fourth best in history.
At 37, Durant is averaging 26.9 points per game with the Phoenix Suns, and while he still has many years left in him, he wants to finish his career on his terms.
“It’s hard to say right now, obviously. I can’t predict a future, but like I said, I just want to be. I want to be healthy and make that choice on my own and yeah, be able to, you know, to leave the game the way I want to leave it,” he said during an appearance on “The Draymond Green Show with Baron Davis.”
Durant further added that he wanted to be able to give back to the next generation of players while being the best player he could be and not be considered an old dude in the NBA.
“I want to just keep building with the young, the young players in the league. I just want to be respected you know, respected as one of the guys that can pour back into the younger generation of players and but still hoop on that level, like compete on that with them.
“That’s that’s how I want my career to end. That’s the type of vibe I want to have when I leave the game, you know, and I don’t want to just hang around just to hang around.”
Durant is in the final year of his contract with the Suns, which was one reason why he was highly speculated to be traded out of Phoenix. However, the four-time Olympic champion has made it clear that he wants to stay in Phoenix and even blocked a reunion with the Golden State Warriors ahead of the trade deadline.
