Cam Ward happens to be a top prospect in the 2025 NFL Draft class. He has been making strides in the NFL circles, with scouts already making predictions about his potential destination. However, this week, Shedeur Sanders’ decision to opt out of the NFL Combine drills raised many eyebrows.
While the Colorado QB has made his intentions clear, Ward’s status remains undecided. NFL insider Tom Pelissero shared the latest update on whether the Miami QB would suit up with other gunslingers at Indianapolis or skip the drills just like his pal Shedeur.

NFL Insider Shares Current Status of Cam Ward
Over the last couple of days, Ward was seen hanging out with Shedeur Sanders practicing and trash-talking while making content for their social media channels. While the Colorado QB decided to forgo the workouts, Ward is still contemplating his options.
According to Tom Pelissero, he has been working out lately as if he would be participating in the drills. The official announcement is expected soon.
“There are some players who are still finalizing their plans. That includes Cam Ward, perhaps the number one quarterback in this draft,” Pelissero noted.
“I spoke yesterday with his quarterback’s coach, Darrell Colbert, who he’s worked with for a number of years. He told me Cam Ward is undecided at this point about whether or not he is going to throw here in Indianapolis or wait until the pro day.

“Colbert said they actually did Combine prep all day yesterday in their throwing session. So Cam Ward at least is preparing as if he’s going to come here and show what he can do on Saturday.
“Colbert said he is a very competitive guy. He’s got a chip on his shoulder. So you would think maybe this is an alluring opportunity, especially with Shadur Sanders, who’s close with Cam Ward, choosing not to throw here. Maybe Cam Ward can separate himself by coming out and throwing,” he added.
The 2024 season has been quite productive for Ward since he played a pivotal role in Miami’s quest for a postseason Bowl game appearance. He led the program to a 10-3 season and found himself in the Heisman contention alongside Travis Hunter. He recorded 4,313 passing yards and scored 39 touchdowns while conceding only 7 interceptions.
Heading into the NFL draft, the Tennessee Titans, the Cleveland Browns, and the New York Giants are on the lookout for a QB. Ward reportedly happens to be their prominent choice alongside Sanders.
In PFSN’s latest 2025 NFL Mock Draft, Ward was the first QB selected, going third to the New York Giants. Sanders slipped all the way down to the Raiders at six.
“Cam Ward would offer the New York Giants front office a lifeline. Massively under pressure in 2025, the Miami Hurricanes’ passer would at least buy them some time.
The Washington State transfer flirted with the NFL Draft last year before returning to college football with Miami. It’s a move that paid off for Ward, who looks likely to be drafted in the first 10 picks. A creative force with incredible playmaking skills and instincts, the Hurricanes quarterback has had some issues with ball security but brings the artistic flair seen in modern passers.”
