New York Giants legend and NFL broadcaster Phil Simms didn’t hold back when offering insight about rising 2025 NFL Draft prospect, Miami quarterback Cam Ward.

With the hype surrounding the incoming rookie as a potential top-three pick, Simms shared his enthusiastic take on Ward’s performance at the collegiate level, emphasizing his natural flair and explosive playmaking abilities.

Simms, a former first-round draft pick himself, gave Ward his seal of approval — a ringing endorsement from one of the most respected figures in Giants history.

NFL Analyst Phil Simms Delivers High Praise on Cam Ward’s Talent

During his recent appearance on the “Mangia-Cast” podcast, Simms left no doubt about his admiration for Ward. The two-time Super Bowl champion broke down the elements that set Ward apart as a future NFL leader, adding another layer of excitement to the draft buzz and placing Ward in the spotlight as a must-watch prospect.

“[Cam Ward]’s fun to watch. I’ve watched about three or four of his games. I saw him playing against the University of Louisville. I don’t know if it was his best game of the year, but damn, if it wasn’t, I want to see the best one.”

Simms was like a kid on Christmas talking about Ward’s collegiate-level talent, elaborating on the quarterback’s abilities.

“He made so many incredibly high-effort, big-time throws. It’s, like, every series. Hell, it was every other throw. I just went, ‘Oh, my gosh.’ Another rocket down the middle, throw outside.”

Simms rounded out his analysis by underlining Ward’s overall football IQ and composure under pressure. “He’s got a great feel for the game. Knows how to manage the pocket and all that stuff pretty well. What I’ve watched of him so far, I’ve been very impressed.”

New York Giants Projected To Trade Up for Ward in 2025 NFL Draft

The top three picks in the current NFL Draft order belong to the Tennessee Titans, Cleveland Browns, and Giants — and all three need quarterbacks to varying degrees.

An intriguing storyline to track during this year’s NFL Scouting Combine (Feb. 27 to March 2) will be who engages in trade talks in an attempt to move up to draft one of the few top quarterbacks.

Owning one of the worst records of the 2024-25 NFL season, the Titans currently hold the coveted No. 1 pick this year. But with so many needs to address and new decision-makers in the front office, the club might be better off wheeling and dealing for a handful of picks than standing pat with one.

Tennessee has only two top-100 selections and eight picks overall in this year’s draft. Given the Titans’ situation, turning one pick into a haul would be a wise move for first-year general manager Mike Borgonzi.

The Giants, who pick third and are in dire need of a quarterback, could be the perfect team to swap with Tennessee. PFSN’s Joe DeLeone projects Big Blue will trade up from No. 3 to No. 1 to grab Ward.

“The Giants coaching staff and front office are in desperation mode,” DeLeone wrote in his seven-round 2025 NFL mock draft on Feb. 22. “They can’t miss out on the best quarterback prospect in the class. Someone will try to move up by draft night for Cam Ward, and in this case, it’s New York landing the gunslinger out of Miami.”
