Wyc Grousbeck, the majority owner and governor of the Boston Celtics, was featured in an interview with Bobby Manning, a Celtics and NBA reporter. He broke his silence on the franchise’s seismic $5.5 billion sale, which could redefine NBA ownership. Amid the championship celebration, Grousbeck peeled back the curtain on his vision for the Celtics’ future, his interest in the team, and the high-stake transition ahead.
Chasing Glory Again: ‘We’re Trying To Repeat’
Fresh off the Celtics’ 18th championship parade last summer, Grousbeck hasn’t lost his hunger for victory. Manning asked, “What’s the championship like for you?”
“Oh, we had so much fun with that championship last summer. Billy and I, and our family, were at the games and the parade, celebrating,” Grousbeck said.
Wyc Grousbeck spoke with @RealBobManning at the Celtics City debut about their title run and the team's sale: "It's all playing out now, so I can't say much."

“We designed the ring together. Now, we’re trying to repeat. We’re trying to bring that energy to it. And the team has won [eight] of 10, so we’re really back on top of the game. We can play, and we love being in the mix. We like not knowing what’s going to happen, but we like having legitimate hopes that we can go all the way. It’s a great feeling.”
Strategic Transition: ‘Do the Best Thing for the Celtics’”
The Celtics have been dominant this season, winning eight of their last 10 games, which has been nothing short of excellence, and this increased optimism among fans.
But beyond the thrill of this victory, Grousbeck has a hint about the strategic changes underway within the Celtics organization. He remarked about the $5.5 billion sale, “It’s all playing out now,” hinting at a carefully planned transition for the beloved franchise.
While many details remain unclear, Grousbeck emphasized that maintaining continuity and executing a smooth and transparent handover are essential for honoring the Celtic past story and driving future success.
He also teased an upcoming documentary for which he serves as associate producer. “I’m looking forward to seeing this amazing documentary. I’ve seen parts of it. I’m one of the associate producers, but it’s really going to be amazing to see it up on the screen and celebrate the Celtics of the past, present, and future.”
Around the NBA, one thing’s clear: the Celtics’ hunger for greatness and their respect for the past, has never burned brighter. Fans are leaning in, ready for a future that honors the team’s roots while chasing something brand new.
